We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Tool Room Machinist to join our team. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this individual will lead one Tool Room Machinist while overseeing tool room operations, supporting manufacturing processes, and ensuring the production of high-quality tooling and machined components.

Position Summary

The Lead Tool Room Machinist is responsible for performing and overseeing precision machining operations on both manual and CNC equipment. This role requires extensive machining experience, strong technical expertise, and the ability to manage tooling projects from concept to completion while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

-Tool Room Operations

  • Perform and oversee close-tolerance machining work using lathes, mills, grinders, and other tool room equipment.
  • Coordinate the procurement of raw materials, machined components, and external vendor services required to complete tooling projects and work orders.
  • Ensure all tool room equipment is properly maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Inspect tooling and completed work to verify quality standards before release to production.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to tooling projects and maintenance activities.

-CNC Machining & Programming

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machining equipment.
  • Perform machining operations on a variety of components and materials.
  • Assist with CNC programming and process improvements.
  • Utilize Mastercam and CAD/CAM software to support machining and tooling initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to improve productivity and quality.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Support and mentor team member within the tool room and manufacturing departments.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to meet operational objectives.
  • Promote safe work practices and maintain an organized, clean, and efficient work environment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tooling processes, reduce downtime, and enhance overall efficiency.

Qualifications

-Required

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 10 years of machining experience.

  • Strong proficiency operating manual lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings.

  • Solid understanding of machining feeds and speeds for a variety of materials.

  • Experience working with close tolerances and precision measurement tools.

  • Knowledge of Mastercam software or equivalent.

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with one other team member.

-Preferred

  • 3+ years of CNC programming experience.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software.
  • Previous lead, supervisory, or tool room management experience.
  • Experience in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.
