Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements in the facility’s geographic location and:

  • ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management system standard.
  • TS 16949 Technical Specification Management and Linamar Quality Basics system standards.
  • Support, Foster, Promote and Demonstrate Linamar’s Core Values and Leadership Behaviors.
  • Maintain balance between customer, employee and financial satisfaction by maximizing facility/department Performance Indicators to align to Linamar’s Stepping Stool of Success Strategy.
  • Support and maintain department lean initiatives as set out in LPS system requirements.
  • Maintain department 5S requirements.
  • Familiarity with McLaren’s Business Management System (BMS).
    • Lead the design and development of gear systems from concept through production.
    • Perform gear geometry definition, kinematic analysis, and optimization using advanced CAD and CAE tools.
    • Conduct root cause analysis and implement design improvements for gear-related issues such as NVH, wear, and fatigue.
  • Work with material experts on material selection and on failure analysis.
  • Work with the internal NVH team on gear noise resolution as needed.
  • Work with the internal CAE team as required.
    • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and support gear cutting, heat treatment, and finishing processes.
    • Utilize software such as Klingelnberg KIMOS or Gleason GEMS and Transmission 3D for gear simulation and validation.  Experience with Romax or Kiss Soft would be a plus.
    • Oversee gear testing programs, including rig and vehicle-level testing, and interpret results to refine designs.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams including product engineering, quality, and suppliers to meet project goals.
    • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership in gear technology.
    • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry standards (e.g., AGMA, ISO).
    • Perform project duties as outlined in the APQP procedure.
    • Support the creation of gear related engineering documentation, such as design guides, GOS plays, design lessons learned, etc.
    • Oversee geared parts fabrication, and support prototype build.
    • Support internal customers for review of design changes.
    • Work with internal customers, test technicians and quality engineers on developing and reviewing test procedures.
    • Recognize and resolve technical difficulties associated with projects prior to production.
    • Assist manufacturing facilities in developing processes through Advance Quality Planning.
    • Communicate with manufacturing personnel to assist in the production launch issues.
    • Keep records and transmit information between customers and other stakeholders.
    • Comply with all applicable company policies and procedures (i.e. Quality System Procedures).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, bachelor’s in engineering technology OR equivalent. Master of Science in Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with automotive driveline systems and/or aerospace gearboxes. 
  • Familiarity with electrified powertrains including high speed applications.
  • Focus on hypoid and bevel gears preferred.
  • Proficiency in gear design software (e.g., Klingelnberg KIMOS or Gleason GEMS and Transmission 3D.  Romax and KissSoft would be a plus)
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to grasp technical concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of gear manufacturing processes, materials, and heat treatment
  • Experience with durability testing, failure analysis, and NVH.
  • Ability to prioritize and work multiple tasks to completion.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to ensure clear and effective group communication with fellow engineers, customers, sales and manufacturing.
  • MS Office proficient.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to conduct engineering calculations, use/support predictive software tools and accurate definition of load/boundary conditions for CAE.
  • Experience writing technical specifications, validation test procedures and test reports.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • This position may require up to 20% travel.
