Lead Mechanical Technician

Metal Fabrication Facility – Lynchburg, VA

Pay: $25–$30 per hour (depending on experience)

Schedule: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are hiring for a growing metal fabrication company seeking a highly skilled Lead Mechanical Technician to support and lead their shop operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with deep machining and fabrication experience who enjoys mentoring others, solving complex problems, and contributing to company growth.

You will play a key role in setting up and approving complex jobs, supporting production quality, and helping guide the technical direction of the shop.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support fabrication and machining operations on the shop floor

• Set up, verify, and approve complex machine setups

• Select tooling and oversee first-article runs

• Operate and support CNC and manual equipment including:- Milling (manual and CNC)

  • Turning (manual and CNC)
  • Multi-axis CNC machining

• Perform and support welding and metal cutting processes

• Review and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation

• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and mechanical issues

• Support process improvements and shop efficiency

• Mentor and guide other technicians and machinists

• Maintain quality, safety, and workmanship standards

Required Experience & Skills

• Proven experience in metal fabrication and machining

• Strong leadership or lead technician experience

• Advanced hands-on experience with:- Milling, turning, and multi-axis CNC

  • Manual machining
  • Welding and metal cutting

• Experience setting up and approving complex machining jobs

• Strong understanding of tooling selection and first-article inspections

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals

• Mechanically inclined with strong problem-solving skills

• Team-focused mindset with a desire to help a small company grow

Technical Proficiencies

• CAD software experience, such as:- Creo

  • CATIA V5
  • Enovia

• CAM software experience, such as:- Mastercam

  • GibbsCAM
