Position Overview
A growing heavy manufacturing company is seeking a Lead Maintenance Technician / Co-Supervisor to support the maintenance and reliability of production equipment while providing day-to-day leadership to a small maintenance team.
This is a working leadership role ideal for a hands-on maintenance professional looking to take the next step into supervision. The successful candidate will split time between performing maintenance activities, coordinating work assignments, supporting projects, and helping lead a team of approximately 4–6 maintenance employees.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Equipment Support
- Perform preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance on production equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Maintain and improve the reliability of presses and other heavy industrial equipment.
- Respond quickly to equipment failures to minimize production downtime.
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and facility improvement projects.
Leadership & Team Support
- Provide day-to-day leadership and technical guidance to a small maintenance team.
- Assist with scheduling maintenance activities and assigning daily work.
- Train and mentor maintenance technicians while promoting safe work practices.
- Support the Maintenance Manager with project coordination and department initiatives.
- Help maintain accurate maintenance documentation and work records.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support capital projects and equipment modifications.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve maintenance processes and reduce downtime.
Administrative Support
- Assist with purchasing activities, including creating purchase requisitions, obtaining vendor quotes, and evaluating cost-effective solutions.
- Support inventory management for maintenance parts and supplies.
- Participate in safety training initiatives and ensure compliance with company safety policies.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience maintaining and repairing mechanical and hydraulic presses.
- Previous experience in heavy manufacturing, aerospace, metals, or similar industrial environments preferred.
- Prior supervisory, team lead, or informal leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of preventive maintenance practices and equipment reliability.
- Experience with purchasing processes, vendor quotes, and maintenance planning is a plus.
- Familiarity with crane and hoist operations and industrial safety procedures.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading small maintenance teams.
- Project management or capital improvement experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards.
- Experience supporting heavy manufacturing equipment and production machinery.
