Job Overview:

SUMMARY

Performs maintenance work on assigned buildings, facilities, and equipment; also performs occasional custodial duties. Coordinates and performs maintenance tasks in electrical, electronics, mechanical, pneumatics, plumbing, carpentry and painting. Operates various types of specialized equipment. Oversees the work of outside contractors.

I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this job include the following These are the duties that define this job and are required to be performed by the incumbent. Other essential duties may be assigned.

Performs repairs on electrical circuits, steam or waterlines, plumbing fixtures, and lights. Replaces circuit breakers and receptacles; disassembles/cleans/reassembles electrical and mechanical equipment.

Performs repairs, maintenance and new installation of various electrical systems including lighting, motors, pumps, controllers, fans and compressors. Performs repair, renovation and new construction work of irrigation, plumbing, and wastewater equipment. Operates specialized power-driven equipment and specialized test equipment. Utilizes ladders and high lift equipment.

  • Initiates and performs corrective maintenance such as diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, adjusting and rebuilding defective machinery, equipment and associated systems. Calibrates and adjusts equipment such as pneumatic control and HVAC systems.
  • Makes on-site assessment of projects; determines appropriate equipment and materials to complete work according to specification, verbal instruction and/or established procedures. As necessary, adapts equipment and materials to meet specific requirements. Performs related duties as required.
  • Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment regularly and as needed. Makes necessary repairs and/or modifications as needed and/or reports damage to supervisor.
  • Logs, charts, records and reports to maintain accurate records of equipment and maintenance performed utilizing company computer.
  • Maintains equipment supplies, parts catalogs, and equipment maintenance records with the use of computers. Orders parts, tools and supplies as needed.

II. QUALIFICATIONS

In order to qualify for this job the incumbent must possess the following qualifications or be able to secure them within 90 days.

A. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

This job requires this education and/or experience background. Other desirable or preferred education and/or experience may be listed.

  • High school diploma
  • A minimum of two years direct experience in maintenance or three years experience in one of the trades (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic).
  • Completion of a certified educational program in maintenance may substitute for the two years of experience.
  • Two years experience safely operating a wide variety of power equipment and hand tools.

B. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The incumbent is required to have the following skills to perform this job satisfactorily. Desirable or preferred communication skills may also be listed.

  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks in all the skilled trades: electrical, electronics, mechanical, pneumatics.
  • Ability to operate safely and efficiently a wide variety of power equipment and hand tools. , including, but not limited to, forklifts and lift trucks
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directives including instructions on labels for the proper use of cleaning materials. Ability to measure and mix cleaning solutions according to directions.
  • Ability to understand and use appropriate safety equipment, wear protective clothing and follow standard safety practices.

IV. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

This job requires the following certification, license, or registration. Desired certificates, licenses, or registrations may also be listed, but are not required.

  • Forklift Driver Certification, (will be attained after hire).

V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job requires the following physical demands on a regular basis.

Up to 2/3 of the time the incumbent will be standing and walking and less than 1/3 of the time sitting. Use of hands to handle, reach and lift up to 50 pounds 2/3 of the time and up to 100 pounds or more 1/3 of the time. Vision requirements include close vision at 20 inches or less, distance vision at 20 feet or more and depth perceptions to judge spatial relationships.

VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The typical work environment includes the following but may vary from time to time or change completely due to remodeling, relocation, or restructuring. Work is performed inside a manufacturing plant environment where the temperature may vary significantly due to changes in temperature outside and constant opening and closing of doors. Noise level may be high from time to time caused by the shifting of parts and assemblies and normal human communication and interaction in a shop, storeroom, and warehouse environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
