Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Lead Machinist/Mechanic to join our Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong conventional machining background, the ability to fabricate and revise production components and experience maintaining inventory and equipment. This role also involves assisting in production machine analysis and rebuilds. Fabrication and welding capabilities are a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate conventional mills, lathes, and grinders to fabricate or revise metallic and nonmetallic parts per engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Maintain an organized and safe machine shop environment, adhering to all safety requirements.
- Order and manage shop tools and materials for inventory.
- Assist the Maintenance Department with critical setups and measurements.
- Fit and assemble tool and die parts as required.
- Understand and troubleshoot mechanical functions, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Work independently, applying strong problem-solving skills to machining and mechanical tasks.
- Maintain effective and positive communication with maintenance and production staff.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure proper housekeeping and safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent use of written, verbal, and visual information sources.
- Frequent handling of tools, requiring manual dexterity and precision.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, grasping, and bending.
- Occasionally required to sit and climb ladders.
- Frequently exposed to dust, grease, dirt, noise, and mechanical hazards.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to machine shop conditions, including chemicals, moving machinery, and extreme noise levels.
- Requires physical work, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Standard office equipment usage is minimal, but familiarity with computers for documentation is preferred.
Required Qualifications:
- Trade school education preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of tool-making and/or repair experience.
- Strong background in conventional machining and machine shop theory.
- Ability to read blueprints, and technical documents, and follow safety and maintenance instructions.
- Proficiency in basic math, including fractions and decimals.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with welding and fabrication.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
