Job Responsibilities:
The Lead Fabricator is responsible for overseeing fabrication projects from start to finish while guiding and mentoring a team of fabricators. This role requires hands-on fabrication and installation skills, strong leadership, and the ability to ensure projects meet deadlines, quality standards, and safety regulations. The Lead Fabricator will also participate in the installation of fabricated products and systems at customer job sites.
Job Duties
•Operate metalworking machines such as shears, brakes, punches, drill presses, and CNC equipment to cut, bend, punch, drill, shape, or straighten sheet metal.
•Fit and join sheet metal parts using riveting, welding, soldering, and similar equipment to fabricate products such as ventilation shafts, exhaust hoods, partition frames, dust collection piping, and material handling systems.
•Perform installation of fabricated products and systems at customer job sites.
•Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and work specifications to ensure proper fabrication and installation.
•Measure, fit, assemble, and secure fabricated components during installation.
•Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other equipment necessary for fabrication and installation.
•Ensure installed products are properly aligned, secured, and meet project specifications.
•Inspect product quality and 100% conformance to specifications.
•Lead and supervise a team of fabricators and welders in daily operations.
•Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure accuracy and quality in all work.
•Inspect finished products and completed installations to verify measurements, tolerances, and compliance.
•Train and mentor team members on fabrication techniques, equipment, installation procedures, and safety practices.
•Follow all company safety policies and job-site safety requirements.
•Travel to customer job sites as needed to complete installation work.
Skills and Qualifications:
•Must have custom weld fabrication experience with sheet metal and structural welding.
•MIG welding various mild steel including 16 gauge, ¼", 3/8", and ½".
•TIG/Stick welding experience a plus.
•Previous installation experience is preferred.
•Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings, sketches, blueprints, and work specifications.
•Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot.
•Strong math and measurement skills.
•Must have own tools and welding equipment.
•Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
•Strong leadership and communication skills.
•Ability to stand for 8+ hours a day.
•Ability to work in a fabrication shop and at customer job sites.
