Lead HVAC Tech 

The HVAC Lead Technician is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing daily HVAC production, installation, testing, and troubleshooting activities related to industrial HVAC unit manufacturing. This individual serves as the department technical lead, ensuring HVAC systems are assembled safely, accurately, and efficiently while supporting production schedules, quality standards, and workforce development.

This role requires advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, electrical wiring, controls, piping, brazing, testing, and troubleshooting. The HVAC Lead Technician works independently with minimal supervision, coordinates priorities with production leadership, assists with resolving complex technical issues, and mentors HVAC Tech Level 1–3 employees to support department performance and consistency.


Job Duties: 

· Leads daily activities within the HVAC department to support production schedules and quality expectations.

· Serves as the department subject matter expert for HVAC assembly, refrigeration systems, wiring, controls, testing, and troubleshooting.

· Performs advanced HVAC assembly, wiring, piping, brazing, charging, and troubleshooting independently with minimal supervision.

· Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, piping layouts, and work instructions without supervision

· Oversees installation of conduit, electrical components, control panels, sensors, piping, and refrigeration components.

· Performs and supports pressure testing, vacuum pulling, nitrogen purging, oil charging, refrigerant charging, and system startup procedures.

· Troubleshoots electrical, refrigeration, airflow, and control-related issues and works with engineering or production leadership to resolve problems efficiently.

· Supports testing and verification of HVAC unit performance to ensure systems meet operational and quality standards.

· Assists with planning work assignments, coordinating priorities, and maintaining department workflow.

· Ensures assigned production schedules remain on track and proactively communicates delays or concerns.

· Trains, mentors, and supports HVAC Tech Level 1–3 employees to improve technical skills, workmanship, and consistency.

· Monitors workmanship and helps ensure compliance with company quality standards, engineering specifications, and safety requirements.

· Maintains inventory awareness and proactively communicates material, tooling, or component shortages.

· Supports continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, efficiency, productivity, quality, and organization.

· Ensures work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety expectations.

· Assists assembly and other departments as needed while maintaining a flexible, team-oriented mindset.

· Follows and promotes all company safety standards, procedures, and EPA compliance requirements.

· Performs all other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

  

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Associate degree, technical certification, or coursework in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical systems, or a related field preferred

· EPA Certification required.

· 5+ years of experience in HVAC manufacturing, industrial HVAC systems, refrigeration, or related environments preferred.

· Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, electrical wiring, controls, piping, brazing, and troubleshooting.

· Proven ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and piping layouts independently.

· Background in HVAC controls, DDC, or BAS systems preferred.

· Demonstrated leadership ability with experience training or mentoring team members preferred.

· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills involving electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while supporting team productivity and department goals.

· Strong attention to detail, organization, and workmanship quality.

· Good written and verbal communication skills.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred.

· Working knowledge of safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, refrigerant handling, and safe material handling practices in a manufacturing environment.

· Ability to physically meet the following: 

o Stand continuously, 8+ hours

o Kneel, crouch occasionally

o Climb Ladder occasionally

o Lift from floor to waist occasionally

o Lift from waist to shoulder occasionally

o Lift overhead occasionally

o Lift 0 – 25lbs frequently

o Lift 25 – 50lbs occasionally
