What this job involves:

As Lead Engineer at JLL, you'll serve as the technical lead responsible for the operational excellence and strategic oversight of building systems across a complex facility or portfolio. This critical role combines hands-on engineering expertise with leadership capabilities, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems operate at peak performance while maintaining a safe, comfortable environment for occupants.

You'll report to the JLL Facility Manager and work closely with property management, client, and vendors to drive preventive maintenance programs, projects, and emergency response protocols.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Oversee all building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire/life safety, building automation, and emergency power generation to ensure optimal performance and reliability

  • Develop, implement, and perform comprehensive preventive maintenance programs, tracking completion rates and adjusting schedules based on equipment performance data and manufacturer recommendations

  • Respond to emergency situations including system failures, power outages, and life safety events, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors to minimize downtime and ensure occupant safety

  • Manage projects from conception through completion, including scope development, vendor selection, budget management, and quality assurance

  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify potential issues, ensure code compliance, and maintain detailed documentation of all building systems and maintenance activities

  • Collaborate with Facility Manager and client representatives to develop annual operating budgets, track expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality

  • Coordinate with external contractors and service providers, managing relationships, reviewing proposals, and ensuring all work meets specifications and safety standards

  • Monitor energy consumption patterns and implement sustainability initiatives that reduce operating costs while supporting environmental objectives

Required qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in building operations and facilities engineering

  • Stationary Engineer License, Chief Engineer License, or equivalent jurisdiction-specific certification as required by local regulations

  • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems

  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams in a fast-paced facility environment

  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal building codes, OSHA regulations, and life safety requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and equipment specifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing maintenance budgets, projects, and vendor relationships

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective solutions under pressure

  • Strong communication skills with ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, occupants, and executive leadership

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field

  • Universal CFC certification and additional trade licenses (electrical, plumbing, HVAC)

  • LEED accreditation or other sustainability-focused certifications demonstrating commitment to environmental stewardship

  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation platforms

  • Project management certification (PMP) or formal project management training

  • Experience managing facilities in specific industries such as corporate office, life sciences, data centers, or healthcare environments

  • Knowledge of emerging building technologies including smart building systems, IoT sensors, and predictive maintenance applications

Estimated compensation for this position:

118,250.00 – 118,250.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
