Job Overview:

Direct Hire Opportunity – 2nd Shift Lead CNC Machinist/Programmer

Location: Lansing, MI

Shift: 2nd Shift | 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM | No Saturdays Currently

Pay: $25-30/hr (Hourly + OT available)

Schedule: Currently working 8 to 10-hour shifts

Team Leadership: Lead a team of 2 CNC Machinists

Software: NX and SolidWorks

Are you an experienced CNC Machinist ready to take the next step into a leadership role? We are seeking a skilled and hands-on 2nd Shift Lead CNC Machinist/Programmer to join a dynamic team in a growing manufacturing facility in Lansing. This direct-hire role is ideal for someone with a strong machining background, programming skills, and the ability to guide a small team toward daily production goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes using NX and SolidWorks.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining operations.
  • Perform first-run checks and in-process inspections to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Lead and mentor a 2-person team; assign daily tasks and set production priorities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, and Operations.
  • Monitor and maintain WIP (Work in Progress) schedules and material availability.
  • Maintain safety and 6S standards across the machining area.
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and coordinate maintenance needs.
  • Handle documentation, including quality logs and shift communication reports.

What You Bring:

  • Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience; leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming, setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing practices, blueprints, and precision measurements.
  • Skilled in using inspection tools and ensuring parts meet tolerances.
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance and machine upkeep.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical degree preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift/move up to 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Close vision and depth perception required for inspections and programming tasks.
