Position Overview

ZefSci is seeking an experienced Senior LC MS Field Service Engineer to support Thermo Fisher Scientific mass spectrometry customers across the Greater Boston region and surrounding territories. This role requires direct hands on experience supporting Astral Zoom and Excedion Pro platforms as a core requirement, along with a strong focus on Thermo Orbitrap systems.

The engineer will be responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of advanced LC MS instrumentation. The role requires strong independence in the field, the ability to manage complex service events, and consistent delivery of high quality technical support in customer laboratories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, qualify, upgrade, and service Thermo Fisher LC MS and mass spectrometry systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and complex instrument repairs in customer laboratories
  • Support Orbitrap platforms including Astral and Exploris systems
  • Use diagnostic tools and service software to identify and resolve hardware and performance issues
  • Provide timely technical support across the assigned territory
  • Maintain accurate service records, documentation, and reports
  • Provide technical guidance and training to laboratory users when required
  • Support escalations and regional service needs as required

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 20% local travel across Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Connecticut
  • Occasional overnight domestic travel for escalations, advanced support needs, and training activities

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of mass spectrometry field service experience, with significant hands on experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Thermo Fisher Orbitrap systems
  • Proven experience supporting Thermo Fisher mass spectrometry instrumentation in customer facing laboratory environments
  • Strong hands on expertise supporting Orbitrap Astral, Orbitrap Exploris, Astral Zoom, and Excedion Pro platforms
  • Advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair experience within LC MS environments
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex service work and resolve instrument performance issues
  • Strong understanding of mass spectrometry workflows, instrument optimization, and customer support best practices
  • Experience supporting Orbitrap Exploris 480 systems is highly desirable
  • Experience with Tribrid systems including Fusion, Lumos, Eclipse, and Ascend is preferred
  • Experience in proteomics, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, or analytical research environments is an asset
  • Strong communication, customer relationship management, and technical training skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation

Base salary: $110,000 to $140,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
