Layout Fitter-Welder

GMM Pfaudler US Inc. is a leading supplier of highly engineered glass-lined equipment and process systems serving global energy, chemical, and industrial markets. 

Position Summary

The Layout Fitter-Welder is responsible for fitting, fabricating, welding, and repairing various types of metal used in the manufacture of vessels and vessel accessories. This position requires strong welding, blueprint-reading, layout, and problem-solving skills, with work performed in accordance with applicable ASME code standards. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Fit, fabricate, weld, and repair metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding processes.
• Perform FCAW, GTAW open-root, and GMAW welding in accordance with ASME code standards.
• Perform light grinding and other finishing work associated with layout fitter-welder responsibilities.
• Read and interpret blueprints and perform layout work accurately.
• Make or assist with making templates and fixtures.
• Perform vessel fabrication functions including small-head layout, nozzle swaging, trimming, and related operations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production and quality issues with minimal supervision.
• Depending on qualifications and production requirements, perform additional operations such as: 
  • X-ray repair
  • Automatic SAW
  • Machine GMAW
  • Carbon steel to stainless steel welding
  • Stainless steel to stainless steel welding
  • Inconel welding
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work practices. 

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of manufacturing welding experience preferred.
• Strong blueprint-reading and layout skills.
• Solid shop math skills.
• Ability to receive, understand, and follow work instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and solve production or quality issues with limited supervision.
• Commitment to working safely and following established safety requirements. 

Required Testing

Candidates must successfully complete:

• Basic math assessment, including radial and circumference calculations
• Layout and welding knowledge questions
• Code weld test

A calculator may be used for the written assessment.
