The Layout Designer supports the design and delivery of custom, site-specific steel walkway structures used in airport environments. This role partners closely with Production Engineering and Manufacturing and owns designs from initial layout through released manufacturing drawings. The Layout Designer plays a critical role in translating customer and architectural requirements into build-ready designs while ensuring alignment with Oshkosh standards and fabrication practices.
YOUR IMPACT
These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
Own the end-to-end layout and design of custom steel walkway structures, including interpretation of customer specifications and architectural drawings
Create and maintain 3D and 2D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and related documentation using Siemens NX and other CAD tools
Design structural steel and weldment-based assemblies with consideration for fabrication, installation, and constructability
Develop and revise Bills of Materials (BOMs) and associated part data in accordance with Oshkosh standards and ERP requirements
Prepare and process change documentation related to design updates, BOM revisions, and manufacturing impacts
Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and suppliers to gather technical data and resolve design-related issues
Provide technical support during production and installation, including troubleshooting build issues
Perform peer and self-checks of design work to ensure accuracy, completeness, proper dimensioning, and adherence to CAD standards
Manage multiple design projects or gate layouts concurrently while meeting delivery expectations
Interpret elevation data to accurately calculate required column height
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree OR EQUIVALENT with two (2) years of experience in design.
Two or more years of experience in a design, drafting, or layout role using 3D CAD software
Experience creating or modifying parts, assemblies, and BOMs
Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings
Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication-supported design environment
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
Batchelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline
Experience designing structural steel components or weldments
Familiarity with fabrication processes, weld callouts, and manufacturing considerations
Experience using Siemens NX, Teamcenter, CATIA, or SolidWorks
Exposure to AutoCAD or ability to support AutoCAD-based projects
Experience supporting projects from design through fabrication or installation
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage work independently
Clear verbal and written communication skills
Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a project-based environment

Pay Range:
$64,500.00 - $103,500.00The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
