**Operations Technician (LAX APM)
**
Primary duties include:
Performs train and system recoveries of failed equipment, “light” preventive and corrective maintenance on vehicles and wayside equipment, including but not limited to, visual inspections of brakes, air compressors, couplers, doors, HVAC, auxiliary power, and all other related electro-mechanical components and maintenance duties under the direction of the supervisors. LOTO
Makes recommendations for hardware and procedural changes that become evident during performance of maintenance, inspection, or troubleshooting.
Reviews and understands safety instructions, procedures, objectives, nature of technical activity and possible solutions such as disassemble and replace, adjust, or repair regarding the maintenance of car/rail equipment, sub-system components.
Manually drive trains and ensure trains entering Passenger Service Availability are fully serviceable.
Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action. LOTO
Participates in regular training to maintain the required level of knowledge to effectively maintain, repair, and troubleshoot the system.
Records the activity performed by indicating all relevant information on appropriate Work Order(s)/forms.
Follows all LINXS Operators security and safety instructions or procedures to prevent any personal injuries and maintain a safe fleet that will meet the demands of a reliable commuter service.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent
Proficient in the English Language
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be able to work a 24/7/365 schedule, including weekends & holidays
Must be able to work variable hours and shifts
Must be able to work as a Safety Sensititve Employee
Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, subsystems, and components
Basic mechanical and electrical maintenance concepts
Use of hand tools and power tools
Use of basic electrical and mechanical test equipment
Read and interpret manuals, diagrams and schematics
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively
Ability to follow procedures and safe work practices
Ability to document work on written forms and/or computerized forms
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and operate independently as well as part of a team
Disciplined, self-starter, ability to handle down time and high stress
Must obtain and maintain certifications in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position
Basic computer skills, including a working knowledge of MS Office programs
Safety first attitude required. Ability to perform all work using the proper personnel protective equipment (PPE) and in strict accordance with all applicable safety policies, procedures and practices required

- - - Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts - Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat - Risk of electrical shock and vibration - Moderate to loud noise level
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic mechanical or maintenance experience, understanding of use with general hand tools
Formal training or education in electromechanical field
Engineering, technical school, or similar training/education required, relevant experience may be a substitute.
Knowledge of railroad, APM, or transportation industry a plus
Knowledge in basic electronic theory
Aptitude for mechanical operations, and operation of equipment
Knowledge in the use and application of a variety of hand and power tools
Knowledge in the use of simple electronic equipment
Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks and duties.
Capacity to learn a variety of equipment operations.
Ability to read and follow instructions

Interpersonal & Communication Skills
- - - For reasons of safety and efficiency, communication skills, both spoken and written are critical. - Operations Tech's will be embedded in the APM system and due to proximity to traveling public will require customer service level communications skills
Preferably an Associate degree (A.S.) in a related mechanical or technical discipline and/or Vocational Training/Certification in a related discipline.
Previous work experience may be recognized in lieu of formal education.
