Job Overview:

As a member of the Laboratory Team, and under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, safely perform routine and special analyses, record and report results of analyses in a timely manner. Evonik Active Oxygens, LLC manufactures a large variety of H2O2 and the majority of analysis will involve material releases at all stages of production. This analysis will include using ICP MS, ICP-OES, Ion Chromatography, particle measurement instruments, and a variety of wet chemistry methods. The technician will perform instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting and training of other technicians as experience is acquired.

The Lab Technician will conduct analytical, chemical, and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists and engineers in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials for research and development of new products or processes, quality assurance and control, maintenance of environmental standards, and other work involving experimental, theoretical, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample analysis per standard methodologies as assigned by material type. Properly record manual data in corresponding software systems for all samples submitted to the laboratory and file and organize hardcopy analytical records and associated paperwork. Transmit sample data and certificates of analysis to proper authority as needed.
  • Communicate via the proper channels when deviations are discovered in product analysis or in the upkeep of instrumentation.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents and standardize all routinely used laboratory solutions.
  • Participate in gage r&R and method validation activities.
  • Maintain work and storage areas clean, clutter-free, orderly, safe, and secure.
  • Calibrate measuring instruments and perform basic maintenance on equipment, identify causes of instrument failure and follow them to corrective actions

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in chemistry or related scientific or engineering fields.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience as a Laboratory Technician or analytical equipment experience via undergraduate research work.
  • ICP MS, ICP-OES experience a plus
  • Work area primarily in laboratory with occasional visits to plant and various sampling areas for analytical or training purposes.
  • Exposure to chemicals, raw materials, and finished products necessary in the manufacture of H2O2 is expected always with proper job-specific PPE.
  • Exposure to the elements (rain, sun, humidity, etc.) is expected during transit to and from work area.
  • Sensory faculties needed to safely perform the job duties that allow a person to react to potential or immediate hazardous conditions and to take appropriate action.
  • Requires working in a rotating shift including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, no exceptions. Lab operates 24/7.
