Mission
This position is a Sr. Engineer and works under the direction of the Engineering Manager to provide interdepartmental and shop floor technical support in areas related to the Company’s manufacturing activities. Professionally conducts assignments in the following areas, including but not limited to, productivity and process improvements, process automation, tooling and fixture design or redesign, cost reductions, etc.
Responsibilities include the maintenance of the engineering drawing libraries for all products, tooling, and fixtures, accountable for the proper creation, retention, and disposal of engineering records per the latest retention policy. The position is responsible for maintaining work center documentations, parts and programs..
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Support machine controls and upgrades for manufacturing equipment
- Provide PLC programming support for manufacturing equipment
- Provide design of integration of sensors and data collection systems for manufacturing equipment
- Develop automation upgrades for manufacturing equipment
- Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager design and oversee fabrication of necessary tooling and fixtures to support plant production of quality product
- Review all production areas annually for non-value-added activity and develop process improvement plans to eliminate the same
- Develop and maintain database of all Crosby drawings and production machining programs
- Provide daily engineering service support for the manufacturing operations
- Serve as a member of the tooling/design committee
- Travel to customer locations to fix and/or trouble shoot problems with Company’s product line
- Coordinate with Crosby Group Engineering to maintain the database of product drawings
- Conduct meetings as appropriate to ensure product changes and new products are adequately understood by those impacted
- Participate in meetings to share information on projects, processes, plans, tooling, design, quality, safety, and other associated requirements
- Communicates with engineering personnel at Crosby Group and other locations to resolve problems on tooling, designs, dimensions, tolerance, Engineering Change Notice (ECN), Engineering Change Request (ECR), and other related issues
- Supplies technical advice and information to other departments as requested within the scope of his/her knowledge
- Assist the Engineer/OPEX Manager in driving change in the Crosby culture toward cross-functional teams increasing success through Operational Excellence
- Assist in resolving safety issues at the plant level
- Assist in the development and maintenance of ISO procedures and the plant quality book
- Assist in the planning, directing, coordinating, investigating, recommending, and monitoring of engineering activities at the plant level and brief management personnel as to the status of projects, plans, and new product introductions on a periodic basis
Work Experience, Skills, Abilities
- 2-7 years related
- Proficient in design of tooling, manufacturing systems, and project management
- CAM programming
- Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to use precision measurement devices and knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints and tolerances
- Familiar with CAD system and proficient with one AutoCAD compatible system or computer aided machining program
- Oral and written communication proficiency
- PLC and controls experience preferred
- Travel is required occasionally (driving/flying)
- Must be able to work necessary hours to accomplish or complete job tasks. Occasional 50+ hour work week may be required
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles typical to a manufacturing environment
Preferred Experience
- Forge Die design experience
- Advanced knowledge of complex surfacing, volumetric calculations for die preforms
- Mold design experience using CREO design software
- Steel forging problem solving experience
- Experience using Deforms simulation software for complex forge process including bending, rolling, blocking, finishing, and trimming
- Experience with forge surface and energy calculations
- Experience using FARO CMM for reverse engineering

Office with Moderate Shop exposure
Normal office conditions. Office located may be located in a multi-level office building. Job demands may require long periods of sitting, telephone work and/or computer work, as well as interaction with other people. Normal office conditions include walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, lifting, driving and/or traveling.
Moderate exposure to shop conditions, which are variable depending on the task assigned, but are generally dirty. Is subject to shop noise. Involves extensive standing and walking. Skin and eyes are subject to drying and irritating fumes, vapors and solutions controlled to OSHA standards. Works both in and out of doors, normally indoors, with sometimes dusty or confining work areas when in the shop/lab.
