Grade/Level: High School Graduate (or equivalent) preferred

Monday-Friday 

Some Saturday's req.

 POSITION SUMMARY 

Responsible for sharpening blades for production lines such as knives, scissors, saw blades and maintaining all associated equipment and replacement blade inventories.

Essential Functions Statement(s) 

 

  • Know and follow all Miller Poultry safety standards.
  • Keep the area neat, clean, and in an orderly fashion. 
  • Set and adjust machine controls according to product specifications, using knowledge of machine operation.
  • Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges, buff, or hone equipment such as knives, scissors, and blades.
  • Inspect or measure finished workpieces to determine conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as gauges or micrometers.
  • Replace any blades not meeting a minimal use criterion and maintain replacement inventories.
  • Observe machine operations to detect any problems, making necessary adjustments to correct problems.
  • Repair or replace machine parts, using hand tools, or notify maintenance manager when corrective action is required.
  • Safety awareness of all surroundings always.
  • Communicate effectively with production employees, Q.A. personnel, and management.
  • Provide mentoring as needed for back-up(s) and off shift attendant.
  • Must have a strong awareness of product quality and correct below-standard product issues as they arise. 
  • Know and follow all plant rules and GMP's. 
  • Know, understand and follow standard operating procedures. 
  • Know, follow, and enforce correct knife safety practices.
  • Understand Miller Poultry sanitizing policies.
  • Know the correct procedures for emergency evacuations. 
  • Know how to properly report any injury or illness to your immediate supervisor immediately.
