Job Overview:

Position Purpose

The Journeyman Mechanical Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial machinery and facility equipment. This role supports manufacturing operations by performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical failures, and completing repairs to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, industrial maintenance experience, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities / Duties / Functions / Tasks

  • Conduct routine inspections of machinery, equipment, and facility systems.

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) to maintain optimal equipment performance.

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues within manufacturing equipment and systems.

  • Provide mechanical support to manufacturing operations to locate and resolve equipment malfunctions.

  • Install, assemble, dismantle, and repair machinery, conveyor systems, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic control systems.

  • Remove, repair, adjust, overhaul, assemble, and replace major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, and systems.

  • Assist with electrical and plumbing maintenance as needed.

  • Inspect buildings and facility structures to identify malfunctions or repair needs.

  • Perform general facility repairs such as drywall repair, painting, door and fixture repairs when required.

  • Support overall facility upkeep and maintenance initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with occupational safety and environmental regulations.

  • Follow Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) and OSHA safety standards at all times.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Journeyman Mechanical Technician or qualified to apply for a UAW Journeyman card.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and repair manuals.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and machine functionality.

  • Experience assembling and disassembling industrial machinery.

  • Skilled in the use of hand tools and power tools.

  • Basic welding and fabrication skills preferred.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Knowledge of on-the-job safety requirements including Electrical Safety, LOTO, Fall Protection, and OSHA standards.

  • Forklift experience required; Skid Steer, Aerial Work Platform, Overhead and Mobile Crane experience preferred.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • High level of responsibility, commitment, and team orientation.

Special Position Requirements

  • Must pass Mechanical Aptitude Test (70% or better, if applicable).

  • Ability to meet company attendance and punctuality standards.
