Work with accounting and operations departments of the organization to ensure estimates for the shop meet customer standards and commitments.
The Repair Shop Job Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, labor hours, material requirements, and turnaround schedules for customer repairs. This role works closely with machinists, welders, inspectors, engineers, and management to ensure profitable, competitive, and timely quotations.
Estimating & Quoting
- Review customer RFQs, work scopes, drawings, and specifications.
- Prepare labor, machining, welding, balancing, coating, and material cost estimates.
- Develop quotations for steam turbine, gas turbine, generator, gearbox, and auxiliary equipment repairs.
- Estimate turnaround time based on shop capacity and workload.
- Generate formal quotes and proposals for customers.
Operations Coordination
- Work with operations to verify manpower and machine availability.
- Track approved jobs from quote to production release.
- Support change orders and revised estimates when additional damage is found.
- Assist purchasing with material and subcontractor pricing.
Job Cost Billing - Fixed & T&M
- Project Billing: Manage and execute accurate job cost billing for both fixed-price contract milestones and Time & Materials (T&M) jobs.
- Portal Management: Upload finalized customer invoices and supporting documentation directly to client procurement and PO websites (e.g., Ariba, Coupa, Textura).
Data Management
- Maintain an organized, accurate electronic and paper filing system and database for all project contracts, estimates, and financial records.
Continuous Improvement
- Maintain historical cost databases and repair records.
- Improve estimating accuracy and profitability.
- Help standardize repair pricing templates and processes.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical degree or trade background preferred.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and OEM manuals.
- Strong math and costing skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word

- Experience in power generation or turbine service industry.
