Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up and operate jig grinding machines to grind precision holes, contours, and surfaces
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications
- Perform precision grinding operations to close tolerances and surface finish requirements
- Select and install grinding wheels, tooling, fixtures, and attachments
- Inspect finished parts using micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, optical comparators, and other precision measuring equipment
- Verify dimensions and maintain accurate inspection records
- Adjust machine settings, offsets, and feeds/speeds as needed
- Perform routine machine maintenance and cleaning
- Troubleshoot machining and quality issues
- Maintain safe and organized work areas
- Follow company quality standards and safety procedures
- Collaborate with machinists, toolmakers, engineers, and quality personnel
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience operating jig grinding or precision grinding equipment
- Ability to read blueprints and understand geometric tolerancing (GD&T)
- Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Skills
- CNC jig grinding experience
- Experience with Moore, Mitsui, or Hauser jig grinders
- Knowledge of precision tooling and fixture manufacturing
- Technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, coolants, and lubricants
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and gloves
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting throughout the shift
- May require lifting materials, tooling, or parts up to 50 pounds
- Work may involve tight production deadlines and fast-paced operations
- Overtime, weekend, or shift work may be required based on production schedules
- Climate conditions may vary depending on facility capabilities and machine heat output
- Strict adherence to safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies is required
- Collaboration with machinists, programmers, engineers, maintenance personnel, and quality inspectors is expected
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision work
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise and moving machinery
