**Inspection Technician
Reports To: Quality Management Rep
Department: Quality Control
Work Environment: Office/Machine Shop
**Position Summary
This role is responsible for ensuring manufactured parts meet customer and company requirements through accurate inspection, measurement, and documentation.
This role works directly with machinists, programmers, and the Quality team to verify parts throughout the manufacturing process, identify problems early, and provide timely feedback to prevent defects, rework, and delays.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
**Key Responsibilities
**Part Inspection
- Perform first-piece, in-process, final, and receiving inspections.
- Inspect parts against engineering drawings, models, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Measure dimensions, features, profiles, locations, and tolerances using precision inspection equipment.
- Verify critical features and GD&T requirements.
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections to identify defects or deviations.
- Determine when inspection results require additional review or escalation.
**Production Support
- Work directly with machinists and production personnel to verify work meets requirements.
- Provide timely feedback when measurements indicate a potential problem.
- Assist machinists in understanding drawing requirements and inspection expectations.
- Help identify problems before additional parts are produced.
- Support production by completing inspections efficiently and communicating priorities.
**Inspection Equipment
- Operate and properly maintain precision measuring equipment.
- Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, gauges, CMM equipment, and other inspection tools as required.
- Verify equipment calibration status before use.
- Report damaged, questionable, or out-of-calibration equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and controlled inspection area.
**Quality Documentation
- Complete inspection reports and required quality records accurately.
- Document inspection results and maintain required traceability.
- Complete or support FAI documentation as assigned.
- Document nonconforming conditions and communicate them to the Quality team.
- Support NCR, RMA, and corrective-action activities as directed.
**Problem Identification & Improvement
- Identify recurring quality problems and communicate them to the Quality Management Representative.
- Assist with root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities to improve inspection methods and reduce defects.
- Provide practical feedback to Production and Quality regarding manufacturing issues.
- Help establish effective inspection methods for recurring or critical features.
**Required Qualifications
- 2 years’ minimum experience within a precision manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Intermediate understanding of GD&T
- Ability to use Microsoft office applications efficiently
- Ability to communicate effectively with machinists and management.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned inspection priorities.
**Preferred Qualifications
5 years’ experience within a precision manufacturing environment.
Advanced understanding of GD&T
Experience performing First Article Inspection
Experience with NCR/RMA processes.
Experience with ERP or quality management systems.
Experience inspecting tight-tolerance machined components.
Experience operating VICIVISION-automated, non-contact optical shaft measuring systems that inspects high-precision turned and cylindrical components.
Software-MTL
Experience operating Zeiss CMM- CNC CMM- Software-Calypso
Experience operating Hexagon CMM- CNC CMM- Software-PC-DMIS
Experience operating Mitutoyo Optical comparator
Experience operating Starrett HDV- Horizontal digital video comparator- Software-MetLogix M3
Experience operating Browne and Sharpe MicroHIte- 2D electronic height gauge
