The candidate must be willing and able to work within a dynamic R&D team environment. Quality verbal and written communications abilities are required.  Development of schematics, PCB layout and the ability to perform circuit analysis and simulation to calculate tolerances, errors, and drift are examples of expected design outputs.  Documentation activities include preparation/review/approval of product requirements for feasibility, electrical schematic drawings, printed circuit board fabrication drawings, printed circuit board assembly drawings, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Reliability calculations, and design documentation that shows compliance with requirements.

This is a hands-on position that requires an intimate knowledge of circuits and circuit design.  This position is expected to be able to design a circuit, prototype the circuit/populate a circuit board, and perform bench testing, make modifications and evaluate the design to meet requirements.  Activities also may include designing, building, and programming test fixtures to facilitate evaluation of the designed product.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of products from a blank slate to meet specifications or desired functionality.
  • Review existing designs for compliance with specifications.
  • Prepare/Review/Approve of documentation for electronic devices, including schematics, Bill of Materials, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings.
  • Prepare/Review/Approve of documentation for design requirements, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Reliability calculations, and Requirements Compliance.
  • Choose/evaluate components that will meet Environmental, Seismic, and EMC Qualification requirements.
  • Prepare theory of operation documentation and define operating parameters.
  • Create Design Adequacy test regimens to ensure the designed product meets the specification requirements.
  • Work with technical team members to ensure manufacturability of the design.
  • Able to interface with fabrication and assembly partners (internal and/or external) for prototype and production of printed circuit board assemblies.
  • Work with buyers to procure raw materials.
  • Build prototypes and test fixtures.
  • Use assorted electronics lab test equipment to perform troubleshooting and make modifications to prototypes.
  • Develop programming code (C, C++, C#, Python, Verilog…) to facilitate product testing.
  • Additional related tasks may be assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience in circuit design, simulation, circuit testing, soldering and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related field.
