Process Engineer - Injection Molding

Pay - $80,000-$90,000 per year

Position Overview

A growing plastics manufacturer is seeking an experienced, hands-on Process Engineer to support injection molding operations. This role is responsible for developing, validating, and optimizing molding processes to ensure stable, capable, and efficient production.

This is a highly technical, manufacturing-floor–driven position. The ideal candidate must have direct injection molding processing experience and be comfortable working at the press—not just behind a desk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate injection molding processes for new and existing tooling using scientific and decoupled molding principles.
  • Optimize molding parameters to improve quality, cycle time, throughput, and scrap reduction.
  • Establish and maintain documented process standards and startup parameters.
  • Perform machine startups, shutdowns, and in-depth troubleshooting of presses, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Conduct DOE’s, capability studies, and tooling qualifications.
  • Provide daily technical support for production, sampling, and quality-related concerns.
  • Identify opportunities for mold improvements, equipment upgrades, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to maintain process stability.
  • Train and mentor mold setters, technicians, and operators on proper processing techniques.
  • Support quoting, trials, and technical discussions with customers or suppliers as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable quality and environmental management systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an injection molding environment.
  • At least 5 years of direct plastic injection molding processing experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Scientific Injection Molding techniques.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience conducting DOE’s and process capability studies.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to train others.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Manufacturing-floor–focused role with extensive hands-on involvement.
  • Regular standing and movement in a production environment that may include heat, noise, and industrial conditions.
  • Strong commitment to safety and process discipline.
  • Expected to lead technical initiatives and respond quickly to production needs.

Benefits & Growth Opportunities

  • Competitive compensation package
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Company-paid short- and long-term disability
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Employee referral incentives
  • Opportunities for advancement and continued technical development
