Process Engineer - Injection Molding
Pay - $80,000-$90,000 per year
Position Overview
A growing plastics manufacturer is seeking an experienced, hands-on Process Engineer to support injection molding operations. This role is responsible for developing, validating, and optimizing molding processes to ensure stable, capable, and efficient production.
This is a highly technical, manufacturing-floor–driven position. The ideal candidate must have direct injection molding processing experience and be comfortable working at the press—not just behind a desk.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and validate injection molding processes for new and existing tooling using scientific and decoupled molding principles.
- Optimize molding parameters to improve quality, cycle time, throughput, and scrap reduction.
- Establish and maintain documented process standards and startup parameters.
- Perform machine startups, shutdowns, and in-depth troubleshooting of presses, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
- Conduct DOE’s, capability studies, and tooling qualifications.
- Provide daily technical support for production, sampling, and quality-related concerns.
- Identify opportunities for mold improvements, equipment upgrades, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Partner cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to maintain process stability.
- Train and mentor mold setters, technicians, and operators on proper processing techniques.
- Support quoting, trials, and technical discussions with customers or suppliers as needed.
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality and environmental management systems.
Required Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in an injection molding environment.
- At least 5 years of direct plastic injection molding processing experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Scientific Injection Molding techniques.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
- Experience conducting DOE’s and process capability studies.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles preferred.
- Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to train others.
