Injection Molding Apprentice (Set-Up Technician Trainee)

Schedule

Training Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (1st Shift)

After successful completion of training, the employee will transition to a permanent 2nd shift schedule:Monday–Friday, 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM

Position Summary

The Injection Molding Apprentice is an entry-level position designed to develop the skills needed to become a fully qualified Set-Up Technician. Working alongside experienced technicians, this role assists with mold changes, machine setup, process adjustments, troubleshooting, and learning safe, efficient injection molding operations.

This position offers hands-on training, long-term career growth opportunities, and the chance to build valuable technical skills within a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment.

Compensation

$18.00 – $22.00/hour depending on experience, mechanical aptitude, and training progression.

Includes a $1 shift differential upon transition to 2nd shift.

While this position is intended for entry-level candidates, applicants with previous injection molding or setup experience are encouraged to apply. Higher starting pay may be considered based on experience and skill level.

Key Responsibilities

Learning & Development

Learn proper mold installation and removal procedures
Progressively take on more setup responsibilities as skills develop
Learn safe machine operation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and proper PPE usage

Setup Support

Assist technicians with mold changes and machine setups
Connect auxiliary equipment (dryers, chillers, temperature controllers)
Prepare machines for startup and production runs
Gather and stage tools, hardware, and materials for setups

Production Support

Monitor machines during startup
Perform basic machine adjustments under supervision
Inspect molded parts for visual defects
Record process data and setup documentation

Safety & Maintenance

Maintain clean and organized work areas (5S standards)
Properly store tools and equipment after use
Follow all company safety procedures and manufacturing standards

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Technical school or vocational training preferred (but not required)
Previous manufacturing experience is a plus

Skills & Abilities

Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Basic math skills
Ability to read work instructions and follow procedures
Strong attention to detail
Dependable and punctual
Ability to safely use basic hand tools and measuring devices preferred

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand for extended periods
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
