**The Role

**

This is not a traditional shipping position. As a Shipper at Chromalox, you will package and prepare a wide variety of industrial heating products and equipment for shipment. Products vary significantly in size, shape, weight, and configuration, requiring employees to determine the appropriate packaging method and, in many cases,

build custom wooden boxes, crates, and shipping structures to safely secure the product for transportation

.

The role is physically demanding and requires strong mechanical aptitude, accurate measurement, and hands-on fabrication skills. You will regularly

measure products and materials, calculate required dimensions, measure and cut lumber, and assemble custom wooden crates or boxes

using saws, pneumatic staple/nail guns, banding equipment, hand tools, and other packaging equipment.

You will also use forklifts, hand trucks, pull trucks, and potentially overhead cranes to move and position products ranging from smaller components to large industrial heating equipment.

Responsibilities

• Measures industrial heaters, components, and equipment to determine appropriate packaging and crating dimensions.

• Builds custom wooden boxes, crates, skids, and other packaging structures based on the size, weight, and configuration of each product.

• Measures, marks, and cuts lumber and other packaging materials accurately using tape measures, saws, and other tools.

• Uses saws, pneumatic staple/nail guns, box closers/cutters, banding equipment, drills, hand tools, and other industrial packaging equipment.

• Determines appropriate placement of blocking, bracing, foam, plastic, banding, and other protective materials to prevent damage during transportation.

• Loads products, parts, or equipment into designated packages, boxes, crates, or shipping structures.

• Secures large, irregularly shaped, or heavy industrial equipment for shipment.

• Reviews packing lists, work orders, drawings, and shipping documentation to verify that all required materials and products are included.

• May operate machines and equipment used to prepare products for shipment and utilize labeling, UPS, and LTL shipping systems.

• Handles materials and products to maintain appropriate flow through production and shipping areas.

• Documents incoming and outgoing materials and supplies.

• Unloads incoming products, parts, raw materials, and supplies from delivery vehicles and moves materials to designated storage areas.

• Pulls stored materials for orders and transports them to production or shipping areas.

• Operates forklifts and other material-handling equipment to unload, transport, position, and stage materials and finished products.

• May operate an overhead crane after appropriate training and qualification.

• Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment as scheduled and required for TPM.

• Conducts inspections to verify packaging, workmanship, dimensions, and finished shipments meet applicable specifications and quality standards.

• Cross-trains and demonstrates competency across department workstations based on production needs.

• Works individually and collaboratively to identify and implement quality, safety, and efficiency improvements.

• Maintains a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials and hazards.

• Supports all company, department, quality, and safety policies, procedures, programs, and activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related manufacturing, industrial packaging, shipping/receiving, carpentry, construction, fabrication, or similar hands-on experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Ability to accurately use a tape measure and other measuring devices.

• Ability to measure, mark, and cut lumber to required dimensions.

• Experience using saws, drills, pneumatic tools, hand tools, or similar fabrication/construction equipment strongly preferred.

• Ability to perform basic shop math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, proportions, and dimensional calculations.

• Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, blueprints, diagrams, measurements, safety instructions, and operating procedures.

• Forklift experience preferred; ability to become trained and certified as required.

• Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, fabrication, warehouse, or similar hands-on environment preferred.

• Basic computer skills, including the ability to use shipping systems and common business applications.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong attention to detail, follow-through, prioritization, and ability to meet production and shipping deadlines.

• Must be comfortable performing

  physically demanding, hands-on work throughout the shift
