Description

Summary /Objective

The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic plays a key role in supporting daily production operations. This position provides facility maintenance, preventative maintenance, as well as repair and replacement maintenance activities on all primary industrial and secondary equipment.

Essential Function

  • Complete work orders in a timely manner, with minimal disruption to production
  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance activities and respond to scheduled calls for maintenance support; typically job duties involve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic activities
  • Collaborate with other team members such as set-up and technicians as required to diagnose and identify needed maintenance repairs
  • Submit purchase requisitions with authorization from the supervisor to obtain needed parts, equipment, and practices
  • Responsible for stopping all work activities that cannot be performed safely
  • Participate in special projects as assigned
  • Work with outside vendors as required
  • Safely operate forklift and other industrial equipment
  • Maintain and update documentation and records as required
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations policies, work procedures, and instructions
  • Ability to professionally communicate with all other departments and report issues to management teams as required

Competencies

  • Prioritize daily work orders to complete preventative, standard repairs, emergency maintenance, and large-scale projects, with minimal disruption to production
  • Ability to read and interpret color manuals, blueprints, schematic drawings, and other instructions
  • Complete assigned tasks right the first time
  • Effectively identify required repair, plan, and use resources effectively reducing cost and waste
  • Ability to work as a team to complete job orders, recognizing the individual strengths and expertise of assigned team members
  • Ability to analyze and identify needed tools, parts, equipment, and supplies to complete assigned work orders
  • Accurately complete documentation and maintenance records
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the organization

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a coach and mentor for those in the maintenance department.

 

Work Environment

This job will be performed in production, warehouse, office, and outside buildings, requiring exposure to extreme weather, with moderate to loud noise levels. This position may require work above or below ground level and in confined spaces. This position will routinely work on and around industrial equipment and systems including, blow molding machinery, CNC machinery, motors, motor control centers, emergency generators, water coolers, air compressors, grinders, hand tools, hydraulics, and pneumatics. The maintenance department may have exposure to hazardous materials.

 

Physical Demands

Standing, walking, bending, stooping, grip/grasping, twisting, reaching above the head, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting and carrying 40-80 lbs., ability to use tools, and other industrial equipment; Able to work in a manufacturing environment with extreme heat; Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time hourly position with schedules that are to meet production demands. Assigned schedules are 8 hour or 12 hour shifts as listed below:

Eight (8) hour shifts are scheduled Monday – Friday. 8:00 am to 4 p.m., 4 p.m. – 12 a.m., or 12 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Twelve (12) hour shifts scheduled on a 3-2-2-3 rotation, working 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. 

Overtime is worked 25% of the year that be voluntary or mandatory. This position may require you to work holidays and weekends to meet required demand.

 

Travel

Occasional travel may be required to attend outside training

 

Required Education and Experience

  1. 3 or more years of Industrial Maintenance Mechanic experience is required
  2. Knowledge of Plastic Blow mold equipment is preferred
  3. Strong Electrical knowledge is preferred
  4. 3 or more years of experience performing diagnostics and repair PLC, VSD, and other instrumentation is strongly preferred
  5. 3 or more years of experience performing diagnosis and repair closed loop hydraulics is preferred
  6. Stage III Mechanic experience is preferred
  7. Production/Manufacturing experience is preferred

Additional Education and Experience

  • Forklift Certified
  • CPR Certified
  • Ability to be certified on other Industrial equipment as required

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

This position will provide a pathway to advancement within the Maintenance Department, as well as other departments at Western Industries.
