THE OPPORTUNITY

Pro Services Workforce Solutions has partnered with Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) to fill two Direct Hire openings for 3rd Shift Industrial Maintenance Technicians at their Reading, PA facility.

Reading is a full-line corrugated super plant. These openings are a real chance to step onto a solid team, grow your skills, and make a visible impact on how the plant runs. If you're strong electrically, can read a print, and want to keep moving up, this one is worth a look.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

We're a Fortune 500 manufacturer with more than 16,000 employees across the U.S. We have a stable customer base in a recession-resistant industry, and our business is built on partnership: we solve problems for our customers, we don't just sell them a box.

Our Reading plant is a full-line corrugated super plant and a true show plant. It's one of the cleanest plants our people have ever worked in, and first-time visitors usually can't believe what they're seeing when they walk in. The team here is a good group of people who communicate well, bring real experience, and genuinely care about each other and the work.

Pro Services is recruiting for this site and stands behind this team as a place where skilled technicians can grow and build a long-term career.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The tech who does well here has ambition and wants to excel. You show up, do the job safely, and put your skills to work. You're open-minded and down to earth, and you'd rather ask a good question than assume. When you make a mistake, you own it and communicate it, and you know this team will back you when you make a call.

You're comfortable making a decision and starting the job instead of waiting to be told what to do. You don't sit back and wait for a call to come in. You get out on the floor, talk with operators, and learn the process. When more than one machine needs attention, you can figure out which one to tackle first to keep the whole line running.

Most of all, you're a team player. You jump in where you're needed, adjust when priorities shift, and dig into problems until you find the root cause. Safety, pride in your work, integrity, and teamwork matter to you, and you're someone your crew can count on to be there every shift.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Keep high-speed corrugated equipment running in a fast-paced environment, troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform reactive, planned, proactive, and predictive maintenance on both the electrical and mechanical side.
  • Diagnose electrical issues across control voltage (0–24V), 110–240V single phase, and 480V three phase, working with servos, VFDs, relays, I/O modules, sensors, and wiring.
  • Read electrical and mechanical prints and schematics to trace faults and work through repairs.
  • Connect to the PLC through the site's dedicated computer, follow the program to see what's wrong, and explain it clearly to the OEM for support. Programming is handled by the OEM.
  • Troubleshoot HMIs and controls on Allen-Bradley and Siemens systems.
  • Rebuild mechanical devices and service conveyors, bearings, shafts and seals, and gearboxes.
  • Help the team get ahead of preventive maintenance so the plant can spend less time reacting.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills. Diagnosing electrical issues is the biggest need on this team. You're proficient with a meter and comfortable across control voltage, single phase, and 480V three phase.
  • The ability to read prints and schematics. This is a must for this team.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience, including connecting with software (such as RSLogix) to follow the logic.
  • Hands-on mechanical skills with conveyors, bearings, shafts and seals, gearboxes, and mechanical rebuilds.
  • Experience with corrugated systems.
  • Basic hydraulic and pneumatic experience.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Your own metric and standard hand tools. All specialty tools are provided.
  • Ability to work 3rd shift, every other weekend, and overtime as needed.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Intermediate or advanced mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic experience.
  • Experience with motors beyond basic hookup, transformers, cabinet troubleshooting, or work over 480V.
  • PLC programming exposure or experience with robots.
  • MIG, stick, or arc welding.
  • Pump experience with positive displacement, air diaphragm, or centrifugal pumps.
  • Background in packaging or pulp and paper.
  • Boiler exposure. The site has a boiler and will train you on it, with internal testing and licensing handled on site.

ROOM TO GROW AND MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Growth is the point here. The team values ambition and a willingness to learn above everything else, and they've had a tech go from a C level tech to top level in three years.
  • Real training up front. After a couple days of orientation and safety training, you'll get a training book, access to LOTO logs, and an assigned trainer. You'll train on day shift for 3–6 months before moving to 3rd shift.
  • A clear first 90 days. You'll follow a 90-day orientation with weekly check-ins against a new hire guide, so you always know where you stand.
  • Your work shows. This team is working to get ahead of preventive maintenance, so the right tech will have a direct hand in moving the plant from reacting to planning.

PAY AND BENEFITS

  • $28.03 – $42.29/hr, based on skills and experience, plus a shift differential.
  • 1.5x pay over 8 hours in a day and over 40 hours in a week, with weekend and holiday premiums.
  • Multiple healthcare plan options, plus retirement plans with additional company contributions.
  • 11 paid holidays.
  • Up to 1 week of vacation in your year of hire, and 2 full weeks in your first full year.
  • Company-provided uniforms and laundering.
  • Safety shoe and safety glasses allowance, plus a tool stipend and replacement program.

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • 3rd shift, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with the work week starting Sunday night.
  • Training on days for first 30-90days
  • Every other weekend is required, and 5–10 hours of overtime per week is likely.
  • Required PPE: safety shoes, safety glasses, and ear plugs.
