Job Overview:

Position SummaryThe Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of maintenance technicians and specialists within a high-volume food distribution and cold storage environment to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations. This role provides technical leadership and oversight for preventive and corrective maintenance activities, troubleshooting, and repair of facility systems, refrigeration equipment, conveyor systems, forklifts (Hi-Lo equipment), and material handling equipment critical to food distribution operations. The position ensures compliance with food safety standards, company policies, and all applicable regulatory requirements while supporting operational reliability, product integrity, and customer service goals.Primary ResponsibilitiesMaintain strict adherence to safety, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards while enforcing accountability for self and team members.Lead recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and development of maintenance personnel to support 24/7 food distribution operations.Assign, coordinate, and monitor daily maintenance activities to ensure efficient execution of work orders and minimal operational downtime.Oversee preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance for refrigeration systems, conveyors, dock equipment, forklifts (Hi-Lo equipment), warehouse automation, and facility infrastructure.Support uninterrupted cold chain operations through proper maintenance of ammonia and/or Freon-based refrigeration systems.Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, USDA, SQF, GMP, HACCP, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.Provide coaching, performance feedback, and disciplinary action as needed in alignment with company policies and operational expectations.Promote teamwork, employee engagement, and a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.Support key operational performance indicators (KPIs), including equipment uptime, order fulfillment efficiency, energy usage, and maintenance response times.Maintain accurate maintenance records, PM schedules, inspection logs, and regulatory documentation using CMMS systems.Assist in the development, forecasting, and management of maintenance department budgets, parts inventory, and vendor services.Interpret and utilize technical documentation including blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, warehouse efficiency, and food safety compliance.Operate powered industrial equipment as required and maintain appropriate certifications.Communicate effectively with operations, warehouse leadership, sanitation teams, and external contractors regarding maintenance priorities and operational impacts.Work flexible and/or rotating schedules, including weekends and holidays, as required to support food distribution operations.Qualifications3–5 years of leadership experience in maintenance within food distribution, cold storage, warehousing, manufacturing, or industrial environments requiredExperience maintaining industrial mechanical systems, conveyors, forklifts (Hi-Lo equipment), motors, and motor controls requiredKnowledge of conveyor systems, material handling equipment, and powered industrial vehicles requiredExperience with ammonia refrigeration systems and cold storage operations preferredExperience working in temperature-controlled food distribution facilities preferredFamiliarity with food safety and regulatory compliance standards such as HACCP, GMP, SQF, FDA, and USDA preferred
