About Us: U.S. Steel is dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace culture that celebrates diversity. Our Minnesota Ore Operations include two iron ore mines in Northern Minnesota. We are currently seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician – Mechanical to join our team at the Keetac Facility.

Job Description: As a Maintenance Technician – Mechanical, you will play a crucial role in our maintenance team. Your responsibilities will include performing mechanical maintenance tasks to keep our operating and service equipment in top condition. This involves using both standard and specialized tools, as well as mobile equipment like pendant and overhead cranes and forklifts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of mechanical systems and equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, power transmission systems, conveyors, cranes, and mobile equipment.
• Assist with operating functions as needed.
• Work at heights and/or in confined spaces when necessary.
• Operate independently with minimal supervision or collaborate with other maintenance technicians.
• Work in various plant areas, facing diverse environmental conditions (hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy).

Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing and/or industrial experience (including relevant military experience) or equivalent education. Experience should include hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, power transmission systems, welding, pipe-fitting, structural repair, and diesel mechanics.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Strict adherence to safety procedures and guidelines, including wearing safety gear (hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and boots with metatarsal protection).
• Punctuality, consistent attendance, and self-direction are essential.
• Must pass assessment tests.
• This is a safety-sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.
