Job Overview:

Chemical Company is seeking a **first and second shift Maintenance Mechanic **at our plant located near Midway Airport in SW Chicago, IL. We are looking for an experienced team player who can demonstrate technical knowledge and skills to perform routine and extensive maintenance and repair of the facilities and equipment at our chemical manufacturing plant.Electrical knowledge is required; welding is a plus. Business necessity will require mandatory overtime, weekend hours, working during holidays, after hours call-ins, and overall work hours to be adjusted.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and oversee operation of the fire system.
  • Electrical (3 phase) work such as troubleshooting, bending conduit, wiring motors, etc.
  • Inspect, diagnose, repair and maintain production equipment such as vacuum pumps, drum turners, mixers, boilers, steam systems, compressors.
  • Install and maintain piping systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment including but not limited to gauges, valves, pressure regulators, etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Assist in the planning and installation of new equipment, piping, electrical, etc.
  • Document repairs and maintenance performed when completed.
  • Comply with all applicable OSHA standards and company policies and procedures, including but not limited to, hot work permits, LOTO, PPE, fall protection, confined space, etc.
  • Perform basic carpentry and general cleaning duties involved in building and grounds maintenance, plus work outdoors in all weather conditions e.g. snow removal.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. is required. Associate's degree, certificate, or apprenticeship training in a related field from a vocational/technical school or college is required.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in industrial maintenance. Combination of education and related experience will be considered.
  • Chemical processing industry and related equipment experience (mixers, pumps, steam systems, fabrication, electrical, welding) is preferred.
  • Basic mathematical skills are required.
  • Must have practical experience operating hand and power tools, machine tools, pressure indicators.
  • Basic plumbing and pipe-fitting skills.
  • General computer skills are used to access company data, such as intranet, AMMS and online employee training requirements.
  • Ability to safely operate Powered Industrial Trucks, such as forklift, scissors lift, etc.
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record is required to drive the company vehicle when necessary.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with all levels. Ability to effectively communicate with others by speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Work positively with maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot, find root cause, and solve problems.
  • High attention to detail with accurate & timely completion of all required projects.
  • Keep tools and work areas organized and free of hazards and debris.
  • Dependable, reliable attendance and punctuality is essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers. Talking and hearing is required. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to be medically cleared and fit-tested to wear a respirator in order to perform some duties. Capability to work in confined spaces.

ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment depending on the area can be quiet to moderate to loud.

This position has competitive compensation and benefits. Relocation assistance is not available. Successful candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S.
