About this opportunity:
As an Industrial Hygienist (IH) based in Calgary or Lloydminster, you will play a key role in implementing industrial hygiene and occupational health programs across Cenovus facilities, providing expert guidance on exposure assessments and supporting employee health and safety in alignment with COIMS. This role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on experience, and solid organizational skills to deliver both proactive and responsive exposure assessments and monitoring activities. Success in this fast-paced environment relies on your ability to exercise sound professional judgment, prioritize effectively, and build strong relationships with employees and leaders.
This position can be based in Calgary or Lloydminster and will require regular travel to Cenovus site locations as needed.
What you’ll do:
Assess IH hazards and risks and develop recommendations for short term and long term control strategies
Assist in the design and develop site procedures, tools, and information materials pertaining to the prevention, protection, and control of chemical, biological, and physical hazards
Conduct or direct the work of IH professionals in the completion of workplace assessments and projects to ensure suitable corrective actions are identified and communicated
Develop and administer IH surveillance programs in alignment with proper professional practice
Support the requirements of the Cenovus Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS).
Advise management and employees on regulatory compliance, standards, health hazard and risk assessment and control requirements
Provide situational expertise to the organization to provide education, awareness, control and improvement recommendations, systems, and processes to support the implementation of IH&OH systems.
Interpret and apply related jurisdictional regulations and requirements
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation is preferred; candidates actively working toward certification will be considered
Post-secondary education in Industrial Hygiene or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years of direct industrial hygiene or occupational health and safety experience, preferably in oil and gas or similar industrial environments
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing exposure assessment methodologies and control strategies, with the ability to clearly communicate technical information to diverse stakeholders
Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation in Alberta and Saskatchewan, with the ability to work effectively in remote operating environments
Proficiency in IH data systems
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
