Essential Function:

The Industrial Engineer role reports directly to Automation and Design Engineering Manager and supports the Silfex manufacturing sites in Springfield, OH & Eaton, OH. 

In this role, the Industrial Engineer will leverage systems thinking to critically assess and identify improvement opportunities with our manufacturing processes, develop recommendations aligned with our short- and long-term automation strategy, and collaborate closely with the Automation Engineering team to bring these automated systems/solutions to reality.  You will also support development of project scope, financial models/analysis and calculate the ROI for automated production systems.

You will impact a variety of manufacturing processes including, but not limited to, CNC, EDM, Wire Slicing, Chemical Etch, and Cleaning. You will work cross-functionally with others in Engineering, Manufacturing Operations and Maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct time studies on the floor for key processes and develop performance standards for automated systems using Lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Analyze current automation standards, processes, data and provide insights for areas of improvement (ergonomics, OEE, cycle time, product handling/quality)
  • Support production floor in re-engineering of existing automated systems, as well as designing and implementing ergonomic improvements.
  • Co-ordinate cross functional teams to review and analyze processes for improvement opportunities, model workflow to support growth and develop future state automated production systems.
  • Support team in development and designing of automation-centric plant layout.
  • Develop reliability systems for existing and future automated systems.
  • Carry out special projects and additional duties as assigned in a safe manner.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial engineering or equivalent engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years of production & industrial engineering experience within a discrete manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise with Humantech or similar ergonomics software, preferred.
  • Project management experience, preferred.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience.  
  • Effective Microsoft Office Suite skills.
  • CAD (2D & 3D) experience preferred
  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI.
  • Experience or formal training in data analytics, including data structuring, statistical modelling and simulation techniques.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently working near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the environment is moderate. Employee is required to meet all PPE requirements as outlined in Silfex procedures.
