GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to troubleshoot and repair the electrical systems of complex mining machinery and report corrective action to the management staff.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1) Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of electrical equipment and component during production and performs scheduled electrical repairs of production equipment during nonproduction hours

2) Troubleshoots electrical equipment including, but not limited to, programmable controls, power supplies, soft starts, drives, gauges, and other equipment

3) Troubleshoot both AC and DC systems to include both single phase and three phase AC systems 

4) Performs electrical duties including repair of heavy-duty mining equipment and other equipment used in the mining process

5) Reads and interprets equipment manuals, schematics, and work orders to perform required electrical maintenance and service

6) Knowledge and ability to megger test industrial motors to preemptively identify failures, or the ability to gain the skill within the first 6 months of hire

7) Visually inspect, clean, and maintain the MCC for the crushing plant

8) Visually inspect all components to include incoming electrical components and interface as needed with electrical service provider

9) Comply with MSHA safety and health rules

10) Performs other duties as assigned or needed

Attends staff and county meetings as required. Attends training, seminars, and workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Preferred:

Knowledge and experience with residential wiring; 

Ability to assist Diesel Mechanics with troubleshooting electrical systems of heavy equipment


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience

OR an Associate’s Degree in Industrial Electronics or Electrical Engineering


LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

Required: Valid Driver’s License

Preferred: N/A 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  

This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a high risk indoor and/or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, odors, fumes, gases, vibration, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, bio-hazardous waste, moving mechanical parts, or working in high places. In the performance of their duties, employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as face masks, goggles, boots, gloves or eye shields.
