Job Summary
The Electrician 2nd Class provides repairs, installation, and preventative maintenance on the electrical equipment and instrumentation devices in the plant. Approximately 60% of the shift is devoted to instrumentation functions and 40% to electrical functions.
Job Responsibilities
- Manages plant lighting (offices, flood lights, etc.)
- Manages heating and air conditioning units
- Manages wiring in the plant
- Operates lifts/lowers/carries/pushes/pulls motors, starters, switches, and valves
- Stoops/squats/crouches to work on and under tank cars
- Utilizes crane to install flow meters
- Ascends/descends platforms/ladders/steps/stairs/railcars/scaffolding/towers
- Operates cranes, slings, man lifts, trucks, box trucks
- Lifts/lowers/carries tool bags
- Wears harness and full-face respirator
- Checks calibrations on sensing unit
- Utilizes voltmeters, ammeters, and other tools and gauges
- Checks batteries
- Pushes/pulls transmitters
- Walks in plant area over rails, pipes, hoses, and debris
- Works in confined spaces
- Communicates via radio
- Conducts quarterly and annual preventative maintenance checks
- Performs repairs, installations, and preventative maintenance duties during plant shut downs
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, with a technical degree preferred
- 5 or more years of electrical experience at refinery, steel plant, or chemical plant
- Applicants must possess knowledge and experience in all aspects of industrial electrical work from 4160 volts down. This includes safe work practices, conduit bending, wiring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical control circuits, PLCs, motors, boilers, process heaters, and lighting
- Applicants must also possess knowledge and experience of electronic and pneumatic process control instrumentation, including PID controllers, control valves, DSC I/O, and temperature, flow, pressure, and level transmitters
- Willing to perform weekend work as required
