About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Industrial Controls Engineer to join a growing engineering team responsible for designing, programming, and commissioning automated manufacturing equipment. This individual will play a key role in developing control systems from concept through startup while collaborating with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and customers to deliver reliable automation solutions.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems for automated manufacturing equipment.
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and industrial networks.
- Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and Bills of Material using AutoCAD Electrical or similar software.
- Configure industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, Ethernet TCP/IP, and DeviceNet.
- Integrate motion control systems including servos, drives, robotics, vision systems, and safety controllers.
- Perform equipment testing, debugging, FATs, SATs, and system validation.
- Support equipment installation, startup, and commissioning at customer facilities.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, and software issues during production and field service.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and project management throughout project execution.
- Create and maintain technical documentation including electrical drawings, PLC documentation, operator manuals, and commissioning reports.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve machine reliability, uptime, and performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent industry experience).
3+ years of experience designing industrial automation or machine control systems.
Strong PLC programming experience with one or more of the following:- Allen-Bradley / Rockwell
- Siemens
- Mitsubishi
- Omron
- Beckhoff
Experience programming HMIs such as FactoryTalk View, WinCC, or similar.
Knowledge of servo systems, VFDs, motion control, and industrial robotics.
Experience with industrial networking and communication protocols.
Ability to read and create electrical schematics.
Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent design software.
Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and automation systems.
Willingness to travel up to 20–30% for customer installations and commissioning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with robotic integration (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, Universal Robots, etc.).
- Vision system experience (Cognex, Keyence, Banner).
- Experience with machine safety systems and safety PLCs.
- Knowledge of SQL databases, SCADA systems, or IIoT technologies.
- Experience working in custom machine building, systems integration, automotive, food & beverage, packaging, material handling, or manufacturing automation.
