Summary of Role:

The Batching Systems Automation Technician supports Cencora’s U.S. distribution services through AmerisourceBergen, providing installation, configuration, maintenance, and technical support for industrial automation systems used in livestock production environments, including feed mills, dairies, and feedlots.

This role focuses on PLC-based batching systems, industrial electrical systems, mechanical troubleshooting, industrial networking, and software support. The technician works independently in remote and onsite field environments, supporting mission-critical systems that automate feed batching, delivery, and production operations.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience in industrial automation, PLC systems, electrical systems, industrial electronics, feed milling operations, or agricultural automation.

Travel Details: 25% ongoing (traveling during training initially)

Shift Details: 5am-finish (variable work shifts based on projects)

Location: The technician will be remotely based in Kansas (preferably north of Garden City and west of Salina) with consideration given to locations in eastern Colorado, Southern Nebraska, or the Texas Panhandle region as well.

Responsibilities:

Industrial Automation & PLC Systems:

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and support PLC systems and industrial automation solutions
  • Support batching systems used in feed milling and livestock operations
  • Integrate PLCs with scales, flow meters, augers, pumps, mixers, and mill equipment
  • Configure and troubleshoot I/O systems, control logic, and automation workflows
  • Perform system commissioning, testing, validation, and performance optimization
  • Diagnose and resolve automation system faults

Electrical & Mechanical Systems:

  • Perform electrical troubleshooting and installation for industrial systems
  • Work with:
  • 120V / 240V / 480V AC systems (single- and three‑phase)
  • 12V / 24V DC control systems
  • Relays, contactors, circuit protection, UPS devices, industrial panels
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Perform hands‑on mechanical and electrical labor
  • Coordinate with electricians, millwrights, industrial mechanics, and contractors
  • Follow safety standards in industrial and agricultural environments

Industrial Communications & Networking:

  • Install and support:
  • RS‑232 / RS‑485 serial communications
  • 900 MHz radio systems
  • Industrial Ethernet and Wi‑Fi networks
  • Troubleshoot communication between PLCs, automation software, and field devices
  • Build, repair, and maintain communication cabling

Software, Systems & Data Support:

  • Support Linux-based operating systems
  • Use command-line tools for diagnostics and system monitoring
  • Troubleshoot Java-based automation and control software
  • Work with SQL databases for system support and diagnostics
  • Analyze logs and performance data to identify system issues
  • Support software updates, configuration changes, and deployments

Technical Support & Training:

  • Provide real-time technical support during active production operations
  • Train operators and customer personnel on system usage and workflows
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users
  • Support bilingual environments when applicable (Spanish preferred)

Quality Assurance

  • Verify batching accuracy and system performance
  • Monitor sequencing, timing, and communication reliability
  • Document troubleshooting activities and prepare service reports

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Technology
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Precision Agriculture
  • Animal Science OR
  • Completion of technical trade school or apprenticeship in:
  • Industrial automation
  • Electrical systems
  • Industrial electronics
  • Industrial machine mechanics

Experience:

  • 1–3 years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • PLC systems and industrial automation
  • Electrical or industrial electronic systems
  • Industrial machinery or controls
  • Feed mills, feedlots, dairies, or livestock operations

Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications:

  • Experience with high‑volume feed milling
  • Experience in livestock production environments
  • Background as:
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Industrial Automation Engineer
  • Industrial Electronic Specialist
  • Industrial Machine Mechanic

$51,500 - 73,700

*This Salary Range reflects a National Average for this job. The actual range may vary based on your locale. Ranges in Colorado/California/Washington/New York/Hawaii/Vermont/Minnesota/Massachusetts/Illinois State-specific locations may be up to 10% lower than the minimum salary range, and 12% higher than the maximum salary range.
