As a Controls Field Technician II with CLX Engineering, you'll be an essential part of building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and commissioning electrical and control systems across a wide range of industries but especially airport passenger boarding bridges, baggage handling systems, and theme park rides. Whether you're in the shop wiring panels or on-site making systems come to life, you'll be contributing to projects that push the boundaries of innovation and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical and Controls System Tasks – Electrical troubleshooting, PLC coding (editing, troubleshooting, and from scratch)
- Assemble, wire, and test electrical control panels in accordance with schematics, layout drawings, and UL508A standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair systems operating from 480V AC to 24V DC.
- Support electricians and field crews in the accurate installation of control systems.
- Apply electrical theory, NEC best practices, and hands-on skills to meet demanding project needs.
- Hired candidates will travel 40% – 85% (domestic and occasional international)
- Represent the company professionally while working with clients and cross-functional teams.
- Use electrical test instruments, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.
- Utilize standard office software and basic network troubleshooting tools for field tasks.
- Mark up electrical drawings to reflect updates and changes.
- Identify and resolve assembly or wiring issues during installation or commissioning.
- Perform precise tasks such as labeling, terminating, and routing wires.
- Follow UL508A standards and all applicable electrical codes.
- Participate in technical training and continuous learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with experienced technicians and engineers to expand your knowledge of automation and control systems.

Job Information:
- This is a full time hourly paid/non-exempt position reporting to the Manager, Controls Engineering.
- Work shifts are variable depending on project needs including overnight, early morning to mid-afternoon, and weekends on occasions
- Travel frequently throughout Central Florida and domestic United States. A willingness for future international travel is a plus.
- Always use appropriate PPE and adhere to strict safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment that supports efficiency and compliance.
- Must be able to pass drug screening, company background check, and TSA level background check
- Diverse work environments (industrial sites, mechanical rooms, etc.) and often extreme temperatures of hot or cold, very dirty, and often loud.
Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must have valid license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation
- 3–5 years of experience in control panel building, electrical systems, or related field
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and layout drawings
- Proficient with electrical systems from 480V AC to 24V DC
- Strong knowledge of wiring techniques, grounding, and protection methods
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively as needed
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. safely and consistently
- Perform repetitive tasks such as bending, standing, and kneeling for extended periods
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Associate degree in electrical, electronics, or mechanical field
- Experience working in automated facilities (e.g., airports, entertainment venues, manufacturing)
- Familiarity with PLCs and basic programming or troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience in system commissioning or field service
