The role of an assembler at Steel Equipment Specialists requires experience in an industrial environment assembling/disassembling and modifying large-scale equipment and machinery. This position requires more than a basic mechanical or welding background. Millwright-type experience is a definite plus.
The following are the key skills required,
- Excellent blueprint reading skills are required for both complex assembly prints and individual part prints.
- Ability to read micrometers and use other measuring and testing tools.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to convey information to coworkers, engineers and customers.
- Must be able to work independently from written instruction and blueprints.
- Experience with fitting to determine clearances or contact or interferences as well as installation of bearings, couplings, keys and all mating parts.
- Working knowledge of mechanical technical skills to allow effectively reading documents such as specifications and machine manuals
- Proficient in troubleshooting techniques to solve assembly issues
- Excellent mathematical skills and strong attention to detail
- Some experience with hydraulics, lubrication line and systems and piping.
- Capable of adhering to strict safety guidelines and cognizant of safety risks
- Ability to disassemble large equipment utilizing cranes, hydraulic press, torches and hand tools.
- Proficient with cranes up to 30 tons as well as rigging, lifting, flipping and handling of parts to facilitate assembly.
- Cleaning of disassembled parts by using a hot water pressure washer and parts cleaner.
- The use of computers to view prints and convey information is a plus.
- Forklift certification is preferred.
- Basic welding skills are a plus.
- Experience with steel mill equipment preferred.
