Yellow Dog Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is a growing residential HVAC and plumbing company based in Needham, MA. We’re looking for an experienced Senior HVAC System Design & Sales Specialist who understands residential HVAC at a high level, knows how to properly design the right solution for a home, and has a proven ability to turn opportunities into sales.

What You'll Do

As our Senior HVAC System Design & Sales Specialist, you'll own the customer relationship from the initial in-home consultation through the sale and transition to our installation team.

Your responsibilities will include:

Conducting in-home consultations with homeowners to understand their comfort concerns, existing systems, priorities, and budget
Evaluating homes and designing comprehensive residential HVAC solutions
Performing Manual J load calculations when appropriate to properly size heating and cooling equipment and support system design recommendations
Developing and presenting customized options including air conditioning, gas furnaces, heat pumps, mini-splits, air filtration systems, indoor air quality solutions, controls, and ductwork
Clearly explaining the advantages, tradeoffs, efficiency, comfort, and costs associated with different system options
Understanding Mass Save programs and clearly explaining applicable rebates, incentives, and program requirements to homeowners
Presenting financing available through our Wells Fargo financing partner and clearly explaining the available financing options, terms, and application process so customers understand their choices
Helping customers understand how available Mass Save incentives and financing options may affect the overall economics of their project
Managing leads strategically and efficiently to maximize opportunities
Following up consistently on open proposals
Promptly and professionally answering customer questions
Overcoming concerns and objections without using high-pressure sales tactics
Guiding homeowners toward the solution that best meets their comfort, performance, and budget needs
Closing sales and maintaining strong sales performance
Working closely with our scheduling and operations teams to plan sold projects
Thoroughly briefing the installation team after every sale so they understand the equipment, scope, technical requirements, customer expectations, and potential installation challenges
Helping minimize installation surprises through thorough system design and job preparation
Maintaining accurate customer, proposal, and follow-up information
Providing an exceptional customer experience before, during, and after the sale
Representing Yellow Dog professionally and building relationships that generate repeat business and referrals
Working directly with the CEO and leadership team to help improve our sales process, product offerings, pricing strategy, customer experience, and overall HVAC business

What We're Looking For

Experience – A minimum of 5 years of proven residential HVAC sales and system design experience is required. Our ideal candidate will have closer to 10 years of residential HVAC sales experience and a deep understanding of residential HVAC systems. A strong combination of HVAC sales, system design, installation, and/or service experience will also be highly valued.

HVAC Expertise – You should have extensive knowledge of residential HVAC systems and be capable of designing and selling more than simple equipment replacements. Experience should include furnaces, central air conditioning, heat pumps, mini-splits, air filtration/indoor air quality, controls, and ductwork.

System Design Ability – You need to understand how equipment, ductwork, airflow, controls, the home, and the customer's comfort objectives work together. Experience performing Manual J load calculations and using those calculations to properly size and design residential HVAC systems is important. We want someone who can identify and design the right solution—not simply replace what's already there.

Mass Save Knowledge – Experience with Mass Save rebates, incentives, heat-pump programs, and related customer requirements is strongly preferred. You should be comfortable helping homeowners understand how applicable programs fit into their HVAC project.

Financing Knowledge – You should be comfortable discussing financing with homeowners. Yellow Dog offers financing through our Wells Fargo financing partner, and you'll be responsible for clearly explaining available financing options and the separate application process so customers can make informed decisions.

Proven Sales Ability – We're looking for someone with a history of converting qualified HVAC opportunities into sales while maintaining high standards of honesty and customer service.

Follow-Through – Great salespeople don't simply run appointments. You should be highly organized and relentless about appropriate follow-up, answering questions, managing proposals, and moving opportunities forward.

Communication Skills – You should be confident, outgoing, professional, and capable of quickly building rapport with homeowners. You need to be able to make complicated HVAC concepts—including system sizing, equipment options, Mass Save incentives, and financing—easy for customers to understand without overwhelming them.

Drive – We're looking for someone ambitious, self-motivated, competitive, and results-oriented who wants to succeed and be compensated for that success.

Independence – You should be capable of managing your own schedule and opportunities while remaining accountable for results.

Customer Focus – Doing what's right for the customer is non-negotiable. Honesty, integrity, responsiveness, and excellent customer service have to come naturally.

Requirements – Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Understand what the homeowner is trying to accomplish. Evaluate the existing system and the home. Perform the appropriate load calculations. Identify potential issues. Design several appropriate solutions. Clearly explain the differences. Help the homeowner understand applicable Mass Save incentives and rebates. Present available Wells Fargo financing options when appropriate. Answer questions honestly. Then help the homeowner make the decision that's right for them.

Sometimes the best recommendation may even mean less revenue for Yellow Dog.
