High Voltage Electrical Engineer
Responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of advanced industrial x-ray systems. This role involves both in-house system testing and field service at customer facilities worldwide. You will serve as the primary technical contact for customers and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Job Description:
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with all applicable local, state, federal electrical and radiation safety standards.
- Interact with a cross-disciplinary engineering team (mechanical, electrical, software, imaging) on system designs and to help resolve customer problems and provide world class customer service.
- Extensive travel to customer sites or other company locations worldwide (50% +/-)
Installation & Commissioning
- Install and commission industrial X-ray inspection systems at customer sites.
- Perform system setup including beam alignment, geometric calibration, and detector integration.
- Commission microfocus open-tube X-ray systems, including tube conditioning and vacuum validation.
- Configure imaging software and integrate detectors and CT acquisition systems.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on:
- Microfocus open-tube X-ray sources
- High-voltage X-ray generators and associated electronics
- Industrial linear accelerator (LINAC) systems
- Service supporting subsystems including:
- High-voltage power supplies
- Cooling systems
- Vacuum pumps and vacuum hardware
- Motion systems and manipulators
- Diagnose issues such as arcing, beam instability, focal spot drift, vacuum failures, and HV breakdown.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
- Troubleshoot high-voltage, control, and electromechanical subsystems.
- Diagnose faults in motion stages, manipulators, and CT scanning systems.
- Use diagnostic equipment including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and system diagnostic software.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Provide remote technical support to customers when required.
Radiation Safety & Compliance
- Ensure systems operate in compliance with applicable radiation safety regulations.
- Perform radiation surveys, leakage testing, and safety interlock verification.
- Support regulatory inspections and documentation as required.
Customer Support
- Provide technical support to customers via phone, email, and on-site service.
- Train operators and maintenance personnel on proper system operation.
- Maintain service documentation and reports.
- Support system upgrades, retrofits, and ongoing customer relationships.
Essential Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Applied Physics or related technical field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience servicing and working with industrial x-ray systems, high-voltage systems and/or vacuum technology.
- Experience working with one or more of the following:
- Microfocus X-ray sources
- High-voltage generators (90kV–450kV typical)
- Industrial linear accelerator (LINAC) systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Familiarity working with precision electro-mechanical equipment
- Experience using diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters.
- Knowledge of radiation safety practices and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to travel up to 50%, including international travel.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with well-established written and verbal communication skills
- Conversant with Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
- Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, capable of prioritization, multi-tasking, and effective organization.
- Must be a US citizen and able to pass personal background and security checks to obtain clearance on various government and military sites
- Will need to successfully pass a drug test and present a clean and valid driver’s license
Non-Essential Skills:
- Experience servicing NDT, DR, or CT inspection systems.
- Familiarity with vacuum systems (turbo pumps, roughing pumps).
- Experience with motion control systems or industrial automation.
- Familiarity with CE, UL, and regulatory compliance processes.
- Experience with LINAC RF or accelerator systems.
- Microcontroller or embedded systems troubleshooting experience.
- Prior soldering experience
- Basic understanding of an MRP or ERP system
Physical & Mental Demands:
- Regularly required to sit, walk, bend and stand in industrial, field and office environments.
- Domestic and International travel via air, rail and car.
- Will be required to lift, move, erect, install and assemble components of varying weight (minimum of 55 lbs), height, length and width dimensions.
- Expected to effectively communicate in person, on phone, and via email and other electronic devices on a continual and repetitive basis.
- Will need to repeatedly use hands to finger, handle, feel and operate hand tools, power tools and standard office equipment.
- Comfortable working around high-voltage and radiation-generating equipment.
- Will need manual dexterity to be able to complete required system and component cabling and wiring
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and the Must be able to fulfill essential job function in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner
