Position Overview

ZenTech Consulting is seeking a Steel Fabrication Machine Operator for a busy heavy steel fabrication operation in the Tampa area. This position is responsible for operating and monitoring large industrial machines used to process and fabricate structural steel components.

This is NOT a traditional CNC machining position. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience operating heavy fabrication, steel processing, cutting, forming, or similar industrial equipment.

Candidates with experience operating burn tables, plasma tables, plate rolls, beam lines, steel processing equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, or comparable heavy industrial machinery are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate large industrial machinery used in the processing and fabrication of structural steel.
  • Set up and load materials according to production requirements, cut sheets, work orders, and job specifications.
  • Operate and monitor automated and semi-automated fabrication equipment throughout production cycles.
  • Inspect finished materials to ensure cuts, dimensions, and finished products meet specifications.
  • Read and follow cut sheets, work instructions, shop drawings, and basic blueprints.
  • Make basic machine adjustments as needed to maintain production quality and accuracy.
  • Safely load, position, and remove large steel materials using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment.
  • Perform routine machine inspections and identify equipment issues or abnormal operating conditions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including PPE, lockout/tagout requirements, material-handling procedures, and safe operating practices.
  • Work closely with welders, fitters, supervisors, and other shop personnel to keep production moving efficiently.
  • Meet production schedules while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

Depending on experience and assignment, operators may work with:

  • CNC burn tables
  • Plasma and flame-cutting equipment
  • Plate processing equipment
  • Plate rolls
  • Structural steel fabrication equipment
  • Automated cutting equipment

  • Forklifts
  • Large steel plate and structural steel components

Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating industrial machinery or equipment in a manufacturing, fabrication, steel, or similar environment.
  • Experience working with structural steel, heavy plate, or metal fabrication is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow cut sheets, work instructions, measurements, and basic drawings.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn machine controls and operating procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic quality inspections and measurements.
  • Ability to safely handle and work around large/heavy materials.
  • Previous overhead crane or forklift experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a production team.
  • Strong attendance, reliability, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial shop environment.
