Water Truck Operator

Job Summary:
The Water Truck Operator is responsible for safely operating a water truck in an industrial steel mill environment to control dust, maintain roadways, support material processing operations, and promote a safe working environment. This position requires operating heavy mobile equipment while adhering to all company and customer safety standards. Operators may also assist with other heavy equipment and site support duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a water truck to control dust on roadways, stockpiles, and work areas.
- Safely operate other heavy equipment as needed and complete required vehicle inspections, safety checks, and documentation.
- Conduct and document daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment.
- Monitor water levels, pumps, hoses, and spray systems to ensure proper operation.
- Maintain safe driving practices in high-traffic industrial environments.
- Complete production reports, inspection logs, and other required documentation.
- Follow all Harsco Environmental and customer safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch personnel, and other operators.
- Support site operations by assisting with material handling and other equipment operations when needed.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, hazards, and maintenance needs.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and keep equipment clean and serviceable.
- Work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.
- Perform duties in outdoor environments exposed to varying weather conditions.
- May also operate other equipment and do other general labor duties, such as cleaning, assisting in other areas, so must be flexible and be open to work in various positions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver's license required
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must have 1-3 years experience as a heavy equipment operator
- Must demonstrate good judgment, situational awareness, and a strong work ethic.
- Previous experience operating water trucks, haul trucks, loaders, or other heavy equipment required.
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in an industrial setting.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and any site-specific requirements.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb ladders and access equipment safely.
- Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in dusty, noisy, hot, cold, and outdoor industrial conditions.
- Must be capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and inspection procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and reliability.
