Job Overview:


SUMMARY 

The Heat Treat Technician operates gas-fired and electric furnaces to heat-treat various metal components in compliance with customer specifications. This position also includes pre-processing tasks such as heat setting parts on rods and applying specific pressure with presses. The role demands a high level of technical understanding, precision, and the ability to work effectively in extreme heat environments. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Operate assigned equipment, including E-1 furnaces, austempers, draw down ovens, and heat set/press stations.
  • Turn belts on and off, and load/unload machines per the standard for each part.
  • Optimize belt loading for maximum throughput.
  • Follow detailed part processing instructions in PLEX, including proper segregation of parts when required.
  • Calibrate and use weigh scales for accurate barrel count adjustments.
  • Retrieve and interpret routings, QFs (Quality Forms), and QJIs (Quality Job Instructions) from PLEX.
  • Follow all QJI directions related to heat treating processes.
  • Comply with 6S housekeeping standards, including:
  • Daily sweeping of work area
  • Weekly mopping of work area
  • Weekly complete machine wipe down
  • Submit maintenance work orders via PLEX with accurate workcenter and issue details.
  • Interpret production schedules and determine appropriate parts to run based on machine temperature and order priority.
  • Conduct and verify part hardness tests using appropriate gauges.
  • Properly identify, segregate, and contain non-conforming product.
  • Respond to power failures, endo loss, or machine faults by properly containing affected parts.
  • Adjust furnace settings for temperature, pressure, and cycle time as necessary.
  • Monitor and adjust endo/natural gas dewpoint levels to maintain proper furnace conditions.
  • Maintain and relight inductor, pilot, and quench burners as required.
  • Check and replenish salt levels and oil in quenching systems.
  • Monitor and respond to environmental conditions using the company’s heat index protocol.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE  

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, high-heat, team-oriented manufacturing environment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to navigate internal systems (e.g., PLEX).
  • Ability to read and understand quality documentation and process standards.
  • Must regularly stand, walk, reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 400 pounds with mechanical assistance (barrel cart).
