Job Overview:

Universal Metal Products, Inc. specializes in custom metal forming, serving customers globally in the Appliance, Transportation and Industrial markets for over 60 years. We are strategically located in three US locations with over 100 forming machines. We provide tooling design, value-added assembly, heat treat and finishing operations.

We are seeking a 2nd Shift Heat Treat Supervisor to join our team in Wickliffe. Hours for the role are 6pm-6am Monday through Thursday. The Heat Treat Supervisor coordinates the activities of workers engaged in heat treating and finishing of parts. Responsible for the quality of the parts that are heat treated.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Heat treats a variety of steel parts to proper hardness
  • Responsible for quality of heat-treated parts and making efficiency quotas
  • Performs inspections of various parts using varied measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc. May use a digital comparator to inspect parts.
  • Responsible for wastewater treatment system.
  • Reports faulty machine operation to Maintenance
  • Reports faulty parts to Quality Department.
  • Directs workers engaged in Heat Treating and finishing of our product.
  • Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies as needed.
  • Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Interprets and enforces company policies to workers
  • Enforces safety regulations in accordance with OSHA and Company Policy.
  • Communicates job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; initiation coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains staff by selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of equipment and resources; maintains compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems. Assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records (furnace logs, paint logs, etc.).
  • Confers with other supervisor to coordinate activities of individual departments
  • Performs activities of workers supervised as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum three (3) years Heat Treating experience in Manufacturing Environment.

  • HS Diploma required; prefer formal schooling in Heat Treating principles

  • A minimum of two (2) years' previous supervisory experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in heat treating operations

  • Experienced in use of a wide variety of measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, gauges)

  • Ability to measure Rockwell Hardness on various scales.

  • Math skills required; ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Must be able to see and distinguish between different colors.
