HEAT TREATER/FINISH OPERATOR

 

REPORTS TO: Heat Treat/Buffing Supervisor

 

JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Heat Treater/Finish Operator performs advanced level finishing operations and intense monitoring processes.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   

Operates high voltage machinery; operation of OSI Furnace, Pickle Line, Solo Furnaces, Vacuum Furnace and Temper Furnace.

Processes firearm parts, adhering to established policies and procedures, to meet Beretta U.S.A. standards and military specifications.

Loads firearm parts onto racks for processing.

Monitors dials and gauges to ensure that tanks and lines contain proper levels of methanol, nitrogen, acids, and salt.

Performs heat treatment process according to recipe book specifications as set forth by Beretta U.S.A. Corp.

Performs hardness inspection to ensure that products meet quality standards and tempers non-conforming parts to bring up to standard.

Monitors voltage, temperature, and amperes to ensure proper electrical conductivity in the heat-treating process.

Assist in managing hazardous waste at facility as needed.  Must have initial and annual Hazardous Waste Management and Shipping training.

                                                   

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Moves light objects short distances.

Adds and removes chemicals from machines.

Sweeps floor and cleans work area at the end of the shift, or as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Performance of duties requires standing, walking, stooping, and bending.

Physical exertion may be required in lifting and transporting up to 50 pounds.

Performance of tasks requires exposure to chemicals, chemical fumes, and extremes in temperature.

Personal safety protective equipment as required.


QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of chemical hazards and safety precautions.

Knowledge of policies and procedures for the operation of machines/lines and use of chemicals.

Ability to maintain written records.

Ability to stand, bend, stoop and move back and forth between machines.

Ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds.

Monitor dials and gauges and make machine adjustments to ensure proper voltage, amperes, time settings, and chemical levels.

Monitor machines, both auditorily and visually.

Identify occupational hazards and use safety precautions.

                                           

QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:

Adhere to established policies and procedures in performance of duties required in the heat treatment of parts.

Withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures.

Perform inspection of parts, determine non-conforming parts, and bring them into conformance.


EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

On-the-job training provided.
