Traveling HBM / Floor Mill CNC Machinist Opportunities Across the United States – FlexTrades

We send our employees on 3- or 6-month contracts at manufacturing companies nationwide throughout the year. You can choose how many assignments you take per year, and you're free to come and go as you like, as long as you successfully complete the contracts you commit to.

FlexTrades is hiring experienced HBM and Floor Mill CNC Machinists for upcoming projects involving large-format machining of weldments, forgings, plate steel, and fabricated assemblies in heavy industrial manufacturing environments.

Pay and Schedule

• Competitive hourly pay based on experience and contract
• 50+ hours per week
• Night Shift
• Overtime paid at time and a half

Travel and Benefits

• Paid travel to and from the project
• Paid lodging (private hotel room)
• $45 per day tax-free per diem for personal expenses
• Family, spouse, and pets are welcome during assignments
• These positions are located nationwide. The city listed is used solely for recruiting purposes.

Position Details

We are seeking experienced CNC Machinists with table-type Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) and/or Floor Mill experience. This is a low-volume, high-mix environment machining large, complex components ranging from simple weldments to challenging multi-setup parts.

Candidates must be comfortable performing their own setups, making offsets and machining adjustments, inspecting their own work, troubleshooting machining issues independently, and working with large-format machines in a heavy manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate enjoys challenging work, long setup times, large-part machining, and problem solving.

Required Experience

• Table-type Horizontal Boring Mill experience
• Floor Mill experience
• Large-format machining experience

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate large-format CNC HBMs and CNC Floor Mills
• Machine weldments, forgings, fabricated assemblies, and plate materials
• Perform multiple setups on large components
• Read and interpret blueprints and setup documentation
• Verify part dimensions and quality throughout machining processes
• Perform tool changes, offset adjustments, and tool wear compensation
• Troubleshoot machining challenges independently
• Deburr parts using hand tools and grinders as needed
• Perform housekeeping and maintain organized work areas
• Safely operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of CNC machining experience
• Must have Floor Mill and/or Table-Type HBM experience
• Experience machining large fabricated weldments
• Experience machining large steel components
• Ability to perform complete machine setups
• Strong blueprint reading skills
• Ability to inspect own work without relying on check sheets
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Comfortable receiving feedback and working through complex machining
