About the Position

This is a hands-on precision machining role responsible for producing high-quality ground components used in critical motion control systems. You will operate precision grinding equipment to manufacture shafts, linear motion components, and other precision parts while consistently holding tight tolerances in a climate-controlled, high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.

The ideal person takes pride in craftsmanship, enjoys precision work, and understands that every setup and every measurement matters. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced grinding equipment while producing components used in aerospace, medical, defense, and other demanding industries where quality and precision are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate precision grinding equipment to produce components within print specifications
  • Perform OD, ID, surface, or other precision grinding operations depending on production requirements
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, tolerances, and inspection requirements
  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment
  • Select, dress, and maintain grinding wheels based on material type, surface finish, and dimensional requirements
  • Complete production documentation, inspection records, and job travelers accurately
  • Identify nonconforming parts and communicate quality concerns proactively
  • Maintain equipment, grinding fluids, tooling, and work area to established standards
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, process documentation, and 5S activities
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production to resolve manufacturing issues and improve processes

Who You Are

  • Take pride in producing precision components that meet demanding quality standards
  • Highly detail-oriented with a disciplined approach to setup, inspection, and documentation
  • Comfortable working independently while maintaining consistency throughout production runs
  • Proactive communicator who addresses issues before they become larger problems
  • Patient, organized, and committed to doing the job correctly the first time
  • Motivated by craftsmanship, continuous improvement, and producing high-quality work

Experience Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience operating precision grinding equipment in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently hold tight tolerances
  • Strong experience using precision measurement equipment including micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, and air gauges
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Experience selecting, dressing, and maintaining grinding wheels
  • Experience grinding hardened steel, stainless steel, tool steel, or other precision materials
  • Comfortable working within high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments

What You Bring

  • Strong understanding of precision grinding processes and best practices
  • Excellent inspection and measurement skills with a commitment to producing quality parts
  • Ability to identify process variation and make appropriate machine adjustments
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating cylindrical, surface, centerless, or other precision grinding equipment
  • Experience within aerospace, medical device, defense, or other precision manufacturing industries
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives
  • Knowledge of advanced grinding techniques and precision finishing processes
