Summary:
A Structural Welder raises, places and unites girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks.
Essential Duties:
- Welding Safety – work safely around the hazards associated with the construction field.
- Welding Tools – use hand, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic tools and in a safe manner.
- Blue Print Reading – Correctly reads and understands plans, isometrics, arrangement drawings, details, specifications, erection manuals and/or blue prints and makes competent decisions based on measurable criteria.
- Visualizes objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings.
- Secure components together applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
- Bolt, clamp and tack weld parts to secure in position for welding.
- Prepare material for welding by cutting or grinding using pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and/or grinder.
- Set material in stands, racks , hoists etc. for welding
- Set up equipment and weld parts using arc, gas shielded arc, gas shielded arc, or gas welding equipment.
- Repair products by dismantling, straightening and reshaping.
- Reassemble parts using cutting torch, straightening press and hand tools.
Weld Test Details:
- 3 position / 1g, 2, g & 3g , 3 position / ½” Thick carbon steel plates.
- 1 - Horizontal, 1 – Uphill Vertical & 1 Overhead will be welded at the same time.
- Welding will be with .045" 70 Series flux cored wire.
- Only stringer weld passes will be allowed. ½” Thick carbon steel plates.

Qualifications:
- Three (3) years minimum heavy industrial field experience as a Welder.
- Ability to identify all techniques of welding (TIG, MIG, Arc etc.) and know all properties of various types of metals and how heat affects them.
- Completion of welding certification(s) required by company and/or client.
- Must have locking toolbox and tools necessary to perform the job.
- Must be able to successfully complete all required pre-hire requirements.
Physical/Site Requirements:
- Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.
- Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- PPE footwear/prescription safety glasses or eye shields required.
