Job Overview:

POSITION OVERVIEW

Ascend Performance Materials is seeking a results-oriented and technically skilled Global Technical Business Development Leader to support growth in the Electrical & Electronics (E&E) and Consumer Industrial segments. This role will serve as a critical technical-commercial interface, driving the development of new applications, expanding customer relationships, and translating market needs into innovative engineered plastic solutions.

The successful candidate will possess deep application knowledge in E&E and/or consumer industrial products, a strong understanding of polymer materials, and a proven ability to collaborate across technical, commercial, and manufacturing functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Application & Market Development:
    Identify and develop new application opportunities within the E&E and Consumer Industrial sectors, focusing on areas such as electrical components, circuit protection, consumer electronics, fluid and air management, small appliances, power tools, connectors, photovoltaics, and energy storage components.

  • Customer Technical Engagement:
    Serve as the technical lead in customer interactions to understand application requirements, provide material recommendations, and support design-for-manufacturability efforts.

  • Innovation Support:
    Partner with R&D, sales, and product management to define and validate new product development initiatives, focusing on performance, safety (UL, IEC standards), and regulatory requirements (RoHS, REACH).

  • Project Execution:
    Lead technical evaluation and approval processes at customer sites, including part testing, material sampling, data analysis, and performance validation.

  • Value Proposition Development:
    Promote Ascend’s differentiated material capabilities—such as flame retardancy, thermal stability, electrical insulation, and sustainability—into compelling value propositions for OEMs and Tier suppliers.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    Act as a technical liaison between global sales teams, application development, and R&D to ensure aligned go-to-market strategies and efficient project execution.

  • Competitive & Market Intelligence:
    Monitor trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity in E&E and Consumer segments to guide strategic planning and positioning of Ascend materials.

Travel Requirement:

Approximately 30–40% global travel to support customer visits, field trials, and collaboration with global technical and commercial teams.

TEAM

  • Reports to: Global Segment Director, E&E/C&I

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in application development, technical marketing, or technical sales in engineered thermoplastics, with focus in E&E and/or Consumer Industrial markets.

  • Strong experience with ETP materials like PA66, PA6, PPA, PBT, PC, ABS, or blends.

  • Expertise with processing techniques such as injection molding, overmolding, and insert molding.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Excellent technical communication and project management skills.

  • Ability to build strong technical relationships with global customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Experience with global standards and certifications for E&E components.

  • Self-driven, innovative thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
