Job Description:

SSR Mining’s Marigold Mine, located near Battle Mountain, Nevada, is looking for a Geology Technician to join our team! In production since 1989, Marigold is a large run-of-mine heap leach operation with several open pits, waste rock stockpiles, leach pads, a carbon absorption facility, and a carbon processing and gold refining facility. Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties:

Reporting to the Geotechnician Lead Exploration Geologist, the Geology Technician typically works a 4-10 hour schedule a week and is responsible for the following:

  • Actively participate in regular safety inspections of drill rigs and ensure all safety protocols are followed

  • Collaborates with resource development and exploration geology teams in acquisition of geological data

  • Coordination of all drilling and drilling related activities viz. positioning/mark-up for drill rigs, road building, following up with dozers, supplies for drilling are made available to drill crew on time etc.

  • Making sure all drill permits are in place before commencement of drilling and all drill-sites are safe for drilling activity

  • Collect samples from drill rigs and deliver to appropriate locations

  • Be able to split and saw drill core

  • Insert and record accurately the QA-QC standards and blanks into submittals

  • Coordinate sample shipments to external laboratories and track laboratory turn-around times

  • Organize, record, catalog and store laboratory sample returns

  • Maintain the core shack/work facilities in a clean and safe condition

  • Perform other duties as required

Required Skills:

  • Proficient use of hand held GPS receivers and Brunton compass

  • Ability to read and understand topographic maps

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision

  • Must have a serious commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals and deadlines

  • Ability to work well with co-workers, contractors, vendors and demonstrate situational awareness

  • Must be able to handle and lift up to 75 pounds and be prepared to work in adverse weather conditions

  • Must be able to wear required PPE including respiratory protection

  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft software such as Word & Excel

  • Valid driver’s license

Required Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • History of learning new skills and problem solving as a team member

  • 1 - 2 years’ experience in supporting exploration drilling programs or in laboratory/ore control preferred

  • Preference would be given to candidates with GIS/AutoCAD experience

  • Experience operating forklift and other smaller equipment
